Any news about new distributor?

I think Emjay was too aggressive in pricing, by doing that they had to save some cost from other areas (services, lower margins to the retailers and etc...), not many companies would take that kind of approach.

If the services w/ APD are much improved, even the prices go up a bit (but still remain compatible w/ other countries), I'd say it's still a better way to stay alive for long :)

For people like me still sitting on the bench may differ otherwise. What made me going to buy Pentax brand are the community here which exhibit the strong sharing values and learning passion. Is a beginner's joys to follow monthly outings with seniors who are generous to share.
Affordabilty an issue because of unsure of sustaining this hobby.
Pentax has estabilshed a niche for the new comers and got good quality cameras like k5 and k30. BEST in APSC category. I saw some from buy and sell section ,sellers migrate to Full Frame when they need something more than k511s
Beginner's point of view always the pixel counts more means sharpness and details.

well said. but that is even more dangerous...imagine you are so good, and that no camera can drag you down from taking good pic. that would make you stronger desire to buy every camera...

Then at this stage all depends on you urself....some reach at high point they will humble down and continue learn....and some will be more arrogant and difficult to listen to other people opinion....that really really depends individually...

one thing awesome about pentax in singapore is that even if the distributor is bad, even if the line of products is bad.. amateur pentax enthusiasts would still try their best at their own expense to promote the brand

im so glad i got hooked on the k-x 3 years ago.. and now is the time where i wonder if i should upgrade my body...

Better don't rely on the old days. Pentax really need some good stuff to attract more new users and meantime keep the old users. We can't just try to stay alive in niche market.

Since the K5IIs is coming out very soon, let's see how it fare against K5 and other cameras on the market. It's pretty challenging for Pentax since CNS all have some FF solutions, and some of them almost come to sub 2k territory.

After all it's the products that keep us stay and keep our community growing, not just marketing or the distributors :)

From my perspective, if the user base is small and we are looking to expand the number of Pentax owners, then lower price would be more important than service. However, if the user base is large and Pentax is looking to keep the existing customers, then quality of service is more important.

Frankly, I have not bought a camera based on the quality of support. After all, how many times in a year do I visit the service centre?

Hopefully no need visit service centre.

I sensed the community is strong and ready, the new distributor and Pentax must learn from Apple lah, launch ready then announce.
Heard news that delay shipment for Japan market for Q10 and most likely we in Singapore have to wait many more days in vain for the new latest 8 release.
Luckily the post by pinholecam gave some relief with some soul searching.

Thanks all.

As a consumer, i want to buy things cheap and good.

As a rational person, i know thats not always possible; something's gotta give and in this case, the only remaining tradeoff is customer service.

Its simply not sustainable to apply this type of strategy - lelong first, worry later.

It destroys the incentive for retailers to push and sell the product because margins are not attractive, thereby reducing availability.

It irritates customers when they have to send items for servicing - not often but one angry customer will blast all over the net and damage the brand's credibility. Not all will believe him but newbies and potential new customers may be swayed.

Lastly, it damages the brand - it becomes a "cheap" brand that pple are not willing to pay more for - even if the new model is significantly better than the competition.

I hope that pentax can achieve stature as a respectable mid range brand. Not a lelong brand.

Just my 2 cents.

Still no news about Pentax stuff? This is pretty disappointing... Considering the handover was at the start of the month.

Although Pentax is small, it won't be that easy to complete the handover in a month time I guess. Last time when Pentax was transferred from Shriro to Emjay, it took a few months (mostly for Shriro to clear their stock).

Problem is shops are out of stock of many items...

In the interim, might i humbly suggest that yoy take the opportunity to cure your GAS by buying a 2nd hand Pentax film camera?

(and no, i am not selling one now):)

Or not buy any camera and wait for sponsors. Which would be flocking by the dozen, if you are that good. ;)

Hi guys , I just came back from Taiwan and was lucky to find an ongoing camera exhibition.

Price of Pentax is generally higher over there.
Will post pic of the brochure soon.
