Any juicy rumours for Nikon at PMA07?

I seriously doubt Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro (who has designed most of top of the line Nikon SLRs) would allow such a monstrosity to leave his desk.

Wow... I didn't know that some Nikons were design by Giugiaro!

I know my car is Giugiaro design... it's cool to know that Nikons are design by Giugiaro too!

BC:)

Yes, the F4 and F5 come to mind.
I can't remember if the F3 was. Nikon followed Yashica (who employed Porsche to design the Contax RTS in early 1970s).

Addendum - Yes he did design the F3 as well - and the first Underwater SLR - the Nikon RS.

Looks like Nikon's relationship with Giugiaro ended with the F5. But his basic design carries on with the dSLRs.

Addendum 2

Wikipedia lists him has being the designer of the F6 (which is based on the D2) as well.

F4 is one of the best looking and stylo camera around. absolute rock solid design!

Man its a BIG disappointment man, I was expecting more.......

"PMA: Don´t be disappointed!

From the Nikon side there will not much to be announced for PMA.

There are some new Coolpix cameras, one new VR lens in the lower segment, and one new DSLR model. This camera will be an "s" upgrade to an existing model. Again: Dont´t be disappointed, it is not the "s" version of a model most of us have expected.
But: Later this year, Nikon will announce much much more.
PMA will be a Canon show. Nikonians have to exercise patience."

My guess probably just before this year's World Athletics Championships in August we'll see an announcement.

Ok my predictions seem kinda accurate, although these items were announced after PMA.

Next? The AFS VR II 80-400 F4!!

Who wanna bet?

how much? within what time frame? :)

1 free kopi on me (Only for chngpe01):). Abt 6 mths after e release of D3

You got to be kidding :bsmilie:

Look at the size of the 200-400/4. Think about how big a 80-400/4 will be. I think some here can explain the physics behind the size of glass/focal length/aperture

well, with Nikon, be ready to be surprised with that they can do. I can feel it........the 80 -400 afs vrII is coming..........

The front diameter has to be at least 100mm to give 400/4, so the lens has to be quite huge..

Hopefully a super tele zoom for DX format. So much talk about DX yet, announced so few of them.

It will cost the same for super teles whether DX or not. So they already exist. Making a DX version of say an 18mm to get an equivalent FoV of 27mm would be cheaper than an 18mm build for FF coverage. Unlike wideangles where you need larger front elements and more complex optics to give a bigger image circle, the size of the front element of tele lenses will only determine the aperture. The only savings is in the crop factor. So instead of a 300/2.8, you would only need a cheaper 200/2.8 to cover the same FoV, but at the same time, the optics has to be more precise to give the required resolution because of the smaller format.

Take for example the Olympus 300/2.8 for 4/3 system with a 2x crop factor. The lens dimension is 129mm (D) x 281mm (L). A Nikkor 300/2.8 AF has a similar dimension 124mm (D) x 268mm (L). The construction of the Olympus is 13/11 while the Nikkor is 11/8, so I would expect the Olympus to be a bit more expensive.
