In short and simple terms...

One should buy with these rules in mind:
  1. CHECK OUT THE SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PRODUCT(S) AND THE RECOMMENDED PRICING VIA ONLINE OR ANY SUITABLE MEANS...
  2. DO PHYSICAL WORK BY:
    • VISITING THE SHOPS IN PERSON
    • OBSERVING THE SALES PERSONNEL
    • ASK & TAKE NOTE OF THE QUOTED PRICINGS
    • THEN TAKE YOUR TIME TO THINK, COMPARE AND MAKE YOUR DECISION WHERE TO BUY FROM...
  3. GO WITH YOUR DECISION, CHECK THE PRODUCT(S) AND PAY UP...
THESE MUST ALSO BE IN YOUR MIND
  • ALWAYS STAY AND BE IN CONTROL... NEVER BUY IN HASTE... DON'T BOW TO THE PRESSURE...
  • NEVER LET THE CHECKED PRODUCT(S) OUT OF SIGHT...

The easier way is to buy from TK Foto and CP if the poor TS needs to do so much things.

Er... 'TS'? 'TS' stands for? :embrass:

I think you should print out this page and give a copy to the shop, and tell them that they have just reached "famous" status in Singapore's leading photography forum.

i'm posting this thread to warn other fellow photographers about a shop at Sim Lim Sq.

I had an experienced very recently with a corner shop at the 1st storey of Sim Lim Sq(near the bubble lifts)< Quite obvious it is a Camera shop

I bought a wireless remote from them and only to found out 3 days later that i'm over priced by 4times.

I went down with the recommended price printed from the camera's official website. What the guy can do is just say that they import from Japan. I asked for prove and he decline. Just say that they import and selling at that price, they are losing money.

Going down to CASE and blacklist them...

Lesson learnt. Check price before going out to buy.

dude.. complian.. i support u

TCW not that bad lah.... Nick is good

Just that lady... You'll have to avoid her when she has PMS, usually near end of the month. I always talk to her first when I patronize the shop. This makes her feel important.

Also, I'll add 2 more shops to the 5 shops that kiwitan had mentioned:

6) John 3:16
7) Ruby Photo

HONEST??????? CAT*** P*O*O ?!!!!

Do me a favour :nono:
They ripped me off for 60 SGD on a 200SGD purchase and I've since deprived them of 3k of my own business and the same from friends/family. Which reminds me, I must let the sales lady, branch manager and the manager's boss know that...when the shop is busy...with lots of tourists.

Why should we have to "build up a relationship", do endless pricing research (which I do enjoy for the larger purchases actually!), go through the pain of bartering (which I know many Singaporeans also despise) and so on, just to get a fair and transparent price. This is Singapore for goodness sake - why should consumers be restricted to Harvey Norman and Best Denki (I'm using "fair" in the loosest possible terms in those cases given the scale of their overheads :D )?

IMHO, everyone, including wealthy tourists and Singaporeans who don't have the time to spend hours researching prices and haggling, are entitled to the same quality of deal as everyone else. "It's their own fault", "get over it", the whole sales folks/ricebowl argument and similar just doesn't cut it with me. Business ethics DOES cut it with me.

Nice to see guys on this forum like The Oracle who have the balls to be transparent and prove that it can be done fairly with both parties leaving a transaction happy and confident.

Getting back to the thread, I fully support your complaint Hashbrown - glad you're making the effort.

Feeling much better now thank you...I'm going for a little lie down ! :embrass:

the above very important. something the salesperson would go to the back of the shop and get another set. so take care in case the another set got missing items...

n lastly, do not forget to ask whether price include GST or not.
later when paying the salesman slap GST into the final bills. this is a very common tactics.

IDEA!!!! I'm gonna print this page and pass it to them. See what they want to do. :p
i'm going down to CASE this saturday. Even if nothing much CASE can do other than a letter plus me spending $10, this shop is going to get it... Go Ghim Moh area oso not bad. Can try the food there.

Small amount of cheating leads to bigger amount of loses.

are you a ang mo or a japanese? if not the tooth tiger CASE will not fight for you.

from other countries eh sai bo? :bsmilie: i scared next time might happen to me...

CASE Officer: Where are you from?
Me: From Toa Payoh, moved from there about 15 years ago... :bsmilie:

By the way, bait and switch is a very serious matter - if this happens to you and you are very sure of it, do not hesitate to notify the police - it may very well be a criminal offence of cheating.

Great :) Do let us know what the shop's reaction is when you pass the page to them.

To maximise the effect, print a few copies and hand it to the various staff - perhaps even better to ask to see the boss or supervisor. You don't want the case where the staff receiving your single copy throws it in the rubbish bin before it reaches anyone of importance.

Hahaha....ya lah...just a thought.... Not so thick skin leh... I just want to write letter to owner of the shop only...

Even if i sneak e pages at night...there are CCTVs around...

normally i make it a point to be extra careful when dealing with sim lim first floor stores.. shop around and ask carefully but politely..

sometime they see your face can "eat" , will not split out your bones after eating you wan..

on the bright side, after 1 lesson normally we are wiser to their tricks..

the other common trick is that they give you good price on your asked item.. but after you thought 1 item cheap the other items should be reasonbly priced too is when they kick your lampa and grab your cash..

Pernisula the tourist shops even worst.. last time i went into 1, ask for lens tissure and solution (the standard type) the sales man say the soluntion $8, paper another $5.. i just smile and walk out. Chow shops! :hung:

I was quoted SGD 60 for a cheap video light worth only 15 SGD, I guess it is the same shop
