Have you ever seen a ghost?

i have seen one before when i has in my secondary school. A whitish form, a male was sitting on my house sofa, but i have no fear, as it was peaceful. As i relate this to my mum and describle its features, she said it could be my grandfather, whom i have never 'seen' before, as he pass away before i was born.

so thats one for me.

I've seen one more than 10 years ago.
Juz a "pregnant" lady passing by. She came up from an "opening" in my
bedroom floor and went out to the living room.
I followed out and saw her went down thru another "opening".

Pretty harmless, maybe juz happens to be jalan jalan ah.... :dunno:

Did you all guys here realise something about Bishan MRT incidents?

They all happened just on the NORTH-BOUND side... Towards Yishun that track and not down to Orchard that track...

ALL OF THEM IN-FACT!
Is the plot of land on the NORTH-BOUND side "dirty"???
urm, i travel to Bishan everyday... ytd i left Bishan station at 12.30pm.. just 20mins before the old man jumped/fell..

anyway, yah it is interesting to note that its always on the North Bound side.. my dad said that plot of land used to be a cemetery.. duno how true it is though. :dunno:

I could not find any news on this tragic accident in the Straits Times (asian best newspaper???) today!
Tat is a very sad news, the govt is covering up their own mess. I am very sad to see that 3 accident happening in less than 2 mths time, and still the management does not take any steps to prevents things from happening again.
I really wonder the security cameras located at the MRT stations are really put into use or just 'for show only'. If the station staff see ppl jumping down they can stop the train from coming liao...is the station staff sleeping???
First of all I feel, the minister in charge of this is damn thick-skinned, he should tender resignation due to his 'mistakes'. :nono:
As a Singaporean, I am very sad to see this kind of tragic happened to our fellow citizen. Everyone should play a part, govt. should be also too!

Look in ST Home section, Pg 6 (top left article)

Obviously the jumpers only jump at the last second so the train can't stop in time. It wouldn't make much sense else to jump before the train pulls into station right? :bsmilie:

If suicidal pple want to jump infront of trains, there's nothing the minister can do. Not even our Prime Minister or President for that matter.

The only kind of mini-star that steps down is a dead mini-star.

mmhh...
Does that mean when some students fail their exam, the ministry of education has to be responsible too... :bsmilie:

Oh comon. time for us to be responsible for our own actions. Dun blame it on a third party who has no direct influence to your life.

Yes, there used to be a cemetary at Bishan. What's the relevance to people choosing to commit suicide there?

This and your earlier post are knee jerk reactions. Let's say MRTC decides to have glass doors and air-condition all the above-ground stations and there are no more train suicides. (Not to mention, higher MRT fares.) Problem solved? Yes and no. No more suicides on MRT tracks. But people will find a way to kill themselves. THIS is the real problem, and it's something not within the Transport Minister's purview.

Also, as written earlier, if someone times the jump exactly at the moment the train pulls into the station, no security camera or personnel can do anything about it.

Me and a few colleages were thinking of heading up to Bishan for lunch when we saw the train disruption notices at the Braddell MRT..... Wonder if it is suicide or an accident this time.....
You were at Braddell yesterday? So was I! And I took the last train from Bishan to City Hall...
If you did take the same train as I did, then you may have heard this bunch of strange kids snapping pictures and clowning around at the end of the station. That was... ermm.. my classmates and I waiting for the 'last train of the century'.
Oops.

Anyway, to confirm XXX Boy's suspicion, yes, the Singapore media is the public relation branch of the government and will always reflect government decisions.
Remember the recent flood of articles of happily married couples with healthy bouncing babies in the newspapers after the baby bonus was announced? Yes, it was all part of it. It's called the Agenda Setting Theory. (It even has a name.)
The media will repeat the issue so many times in many different articles that the public will start to think that the issue is very important for the media to repeat it so many times.
But, XXX Boy, the government really cannot do anything about it except to build more preventive measures like the railings. So, you should really stop blaming the government for anything bad which happened.
I guess it all boils down to how the person feels at that point of time, and the government's not entirely at fault.

Oh boi...Singapore is famous for lots of things, BAN of chewing gum..blah blah blah...now we got high hit rates of people jumping on to train tracks. * sigh * So sad. Due to economy ?

wat does banning chewing gum got to do with suicide and economy??

chewing gum helps to relieve the stress of living in this country...fewer people will need to jump onto path of mrt training if they can relieve their penned up stress.

Yap...and imagine IF the train did an E-BRAKE, what will happen to all the passengers onboard??

Can't imagine man....sigh.... :(

Maybe the govt. should lift the ban on bubble gum to help those whom wished to be a 'jumper' to relieve stress. Who knows? After chewing the peppermint (how nice!) gum, they might not jump down already le??? ;p ;p ;p

wonder how the drivers are trained to handle it, since the survival rate is quite low, e-brake may not be able to save his life. if e-brake, it may endanger passengers inside the train....hmm, may be there is no e-brake function on the train at the first place?

There is, definitely. And don't forget the $5000 ones? :D
For a large object like a train, the brake would only slow down the train for a distance before it actually stops. Otherwise you can derail the train if it stops abruptly. And even if the train is moving at a crawl, the person falling under it can still be crushed by its sheer weight.

If SMRT can slow down their trains way sooner, so by the time it reaches the station platform, it'll be travelling way too slowly for the jumpers. Better if they can reinforce the idea that death by crushing is really really painful using the same formula for anti-smoking & anti-drink & drive ads. Ha, that's an idea, but i'll leave it the experts to figure out time lost/speed/efficiency factors.

But if a person really wants to commit sucide due to whatever reason, no matter what you say about how painful/gory/ugly it is, i think he wld still go kill himself. *shrugs*

Maybe the government should do a check on their background or something. What led them to sucide (if it was sucide). If they fell in by accident, then its an entirely different story altogether.
