Any guys here got experience with east gear BLM1 ? I got mine for E510 and had it charged. Place it in and then the camera power off by itself. What wrong ? Not compatitble ?

mm... dunno leh. My guess from circuit design it is probably either the over or under voltage fault detection kicking in.

Get a voltmeter and measure the voltage lor and compare it with your blm-1.

Both the original and eastgear BLM when fully charged measure around 8.30V

So what is wrong ?

Well, just return the battery back to them for a replacement. Not as if you/we can fix it even if we know exactly what's wrong.

Have used their BLM-1 compatible battery before and its' OK. Now using another clone BLM-1 bought from E-Bay and I'm quite happy with it (1 month+ already).

pretty much the same settings as the default. made 2 custom reset settings, i'll list only the changes from the default for my settings

custom reset 1 (general shooting)
vivid mode (sharp -2, sat +2)
RAW + SQ
noise filter off
metering mode: ESP
AF mode: s-af+mf
live view boost on
frame assist - golden section

custom reset 2 (for IR)
monotone (contrast +1, sharp -2, b&w filter: green, pict tone: netral)
gradation high key
RAW + SQ
metering mode: ESP
AF mode: s-af+mf
live view boost on
frame assist - golden section
screen brightness +7

hey can i ask how for IR Photography
Do you do white balance with the ir filter on?
Or do we just shoot w/o setting custom white balance?

for me, so far the custom white balance doesn't work with the IR filter. i shoot in RAW and adjust white balance in post, but i do set it to monochrome + green filter to get the jpegs to be near the desired IR effect for reference and checking focus.

the LV helps a little for composing your shots, but its still too dark to focus with LV even with LV boost. manual pre-focusing then adding the IR filter so far works for me. fyi, ISO 800 and above in IR will result in severe banding in the image, even if you over expose.

Is there battery grip for the e-510? Also, is there an LCD cover for the LCD screen of the e-510? :)

Have been using the E510 for birding and so far find the IS performance effective for long lens, and in my case, with the Bigma (Sigma 50-500mm) at 500mm. It is possible to get sharp images as low as 1/60s. But of course the lower the shutter speed, the success rate is lower, but nevertheless even at 1/60s, it is > 50% sharp handheld, which I can never achieve without IS. For me, the main issue is hand holding the Bigma can be very tiring. I've used C brand in-lens IS and I can say Oly's in-camera IS is at least as good as C's. Only difference is the in-camera IS effect cannot be viewed thru the viewfinder, hence composing the shot is a little more difficult though it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Here's a sample shot at 1/60s, 1/100s and 1/250s:

Wonderful pic!

Anyone has any idea how much is the body only E-510 selling for here in Singapore?
I reckon it would cost around $1060 to order from B&H, including parcel delivery and local GST.

Another victim of the E510 I am. Thanks for the existence of this wonderful thread ! Hope to learn much much more from all the old-birds. Yo-ro-shi-ku !

Yay bought my E-510 at SITEX today, a bit lousy deal judging by the prices ppl are getting here tho.

1499 for dual lens kit + lowepro bag + 2GB CF*2 + usual stuff lar tripod, lens cleaner...

Anyway, looking forward to becoming an active member of the olympus community here.

My Canon and Nikon fanboy friends are already laughing at me (claiming that my fourthirds sensor is so small and noisy). Hopefully everyone here can help me prove them wrong :D.

Glad you chose Olympus. Olympus has already proved itself, with the E-3. :) Impress them with the Oly colours. But most importantly, enjoy shooting with our E-510!

Tell you what, invite them to a whole day nature/bird shoot at Pulau Ubin.

At the end of the day, they'll stop laughing. ;)

hi, i'm relatively still new to the world of photography. so i'd like to ask u guys here if the oly e-510 is a good candidate for me to embark on this journey?

i've yet to discover what type of photography i'm delving into yet. so i'd say i've no specific preference or whatnot. just wondering if the four-thirds system is a good one to invest in, especially in the long run. any opinions will be appreaciated! =]

FourThirds is a better nature/birding system than a portraits system.

At the same time, the lesser bulk of FourThirds makes for easier travelling.

You guys are so lucky... 6 months ago when the E-510 was first released, that price of S$13xx can only buy a 1-kit-lens+body+crummy 2GB CF card deal. You have saved at least S$300 by getting the 40-150mm ED lens 'free'.

When I sold off my E-510 recently... it still had its factory screen protector sheet that was on it right out of its box. Just taped the corners so that it didn't peel off by accident.

Try look for this guy, Amos, at harvey norman.

See if he can deal you something similar.

I finally got my E510 after thinking so much and missing out on the SITEX. Went to Suntec Harvey Norman, the salesperson xxx was quite friendly.

I managed to get the same package which SITEX is offering,

$1499 with
1) Kit lense 14-42mm
2) Additional lense 40-150mm
3) Lowepro Kit Bag
4) Tripod
5) 2GB CF card for $58 (U.P. $66)on top of originally 2GB CF Card
6) Free Extra Batt
7) 2 Lens Filter for $20 ea (U.P. $ 48)

Hope it is considered a good buy.
