drakon09, you intend to do some serious drop tests with the E-510 ah?

For me... (hugs my Digital OM-10, aka E-410). LOL...

I was thinking along the lines of slamming the base of the cam against a table top, just like the ghetto way of unjamming a jammed shutter on the old SLRs...

But then again, I COULD buy a 8mm for that kind of money...

Yes of course. But photojournalists has no control of the environment we work in, and therefore the hardiness of our gear and the reliability of the gear are very important to us. Well, I guess until a newer technology is made available (Panasonic Toughbook comes to mind), I guess I will have to rely on monopods and less coffee... LOL.

That's why photojournalists are supposed to use pro-DSLRs and not consumer DSLRs. ;)

Maybe drakon can start with his E-410 to see if the latest technology from Olympus can take that kind of abuse or not first. :)

I still have my E-1 for the rough and tumble stuff. ;)

You are right tomcat... that is why... sigh... the wait continues... my E-1 has been through hell and back... showers and all... and I am still loving it!

Erm RM2900 at the present exchange rate of around 2.23 yields ard $1300, ard the same price as the one qouted by HN.

If they see it (nicely packed in box and all), then it's GST for you... :bsmilie:

Works on both sides of the fence too... Don't let the JB customs fellas see you carry in something big and in a fancy packaging that says "tax me!".

According to some pm tog,you can even get RM2800!!;p

Even if slightly cheaper, i won't buy from Malaysia...

Where is that cutoff point between 'slightly cheaper' and 'cheap enough for consideration' for you? 5%, 10%, 15% less than S'pore prices? Bad experience from M'sian dealers in the past?

Cheap enough for consideration? Maybe $1100 instead of $1300.

If less than $100 cheaper, i rather not support their economy... ;)

Hmm, noticed something that indicates that the IS does take some time to 'lock on'.
Try taking a few pictures (with low shutter speeds) in rapid succession holding down the shutter button. Sometimes you'll notice the first picture is blur but subsequent ones are sharp. Conventional wisdom would put that the photos following the first would have degraded in sharpness due to vibrations from the mirror slap.

On another note, the sequential shooting on the E-510 is awesome. On my 133x speed CF card and shooting HQ JPEGs, it hardly slows down up to 70+ shots in a row. For SHQ, it's about 30 shots in a row before the buffer fills up and shooting rate dwindles from 3fps to just 1fps or so.

Hi. For those who are interested...

I went to HN Funan today. Accordign to the salesman xxx, the new stocks for e510 just arrived. The package deal is at 1499 and 1299 for non packaged deals. According to him, they are stocking up for their grand opening promotion. Heard that its 1499 + more freebies.

Very tempted but I have no moolah.

Just sharing this information with the rest who are keen. I was quoted 1310 at AP.

Perhaps we should not mention any names here, might get the person into trouble unknowingly... :o

Agree, might get them into trouble.
Pls remove their names.

Got mine over there a few days ago + extract 4years warranty. ($50 each year)
Although not from him.

The salesperson has PM-ed me about not naming him for commercial reasons. Though you can PM him... if you can figure out his nick. Cheers.

Wondering does non package deal still have 2 x 2gb CF card? As long as have it will be a great deal.

You should get at least 1 pc of the 2GB card from Olympus (claim from the service centre).

But... the 2GB CF cards that were given to me are the slow speed type. At least they are Kingstons.
To make full use of the E-510's unlimited number of HQ JPEG sequential shooting (or 30+ SHQ JPEG without slowdown) you'll need a 120x or 133x speed CF card.

Yes, HN gives 2 x 2GB CF (Normal Kingston) on the spot when I got my E510.
Save the trouble to redeem from Olympus.

Seems to depend on where we buy the E-510....
Parisilk gave me a 133x CF card when I bought mine from them. The one from Olympus is a standard (as in slooow...) Kingston card. :(
