Just go to Jn 3:16@Funan tower and get the used L1 kit for S$900.And sell the L1 off for something like S$800.So you get a Leica lens for S$100:sweat:.
Really? Is it selling for $900? Maybe I will go and get it as a backup for my L1.....

had the oppoturnity to shoot with the e510 over the weekend thanks to mytikas. thanks chee yean. :)

the IS is a really, really strong feature that the e510 can boast about. 84mm, 1/8s? with live view? man...

and all this only makes my decision even tougher.

Finally got to handled the E-510 today... :D

To be honest, coming from a E-300, I'm a little disappointed with the build quality... Don't get me wrong, it is still very well built but compared to the E-300, it's just not the same quality. I prefer the build quality of the E-300, somehow it just makes you feel more comfortable handling it. The E-510 do feel like a toy especially when I match it with the 50-200mm...

Nevertheless, with all the bells and whistles, high image quality, it certainly looks like a very formidable candidate in the competitive DSLR market. I have another 5 days to make up my mind - buy now or just continue to wait for the E-Pro... (anybody want the 14-42mm if I decide to buy the E-510?)

For those interested, here's the current prices at the various reputable retail stores (all come with 2 x 2GB CF card);

Harvey Norman S$1,299 (available stocks, lowest price so far)
Cathay Photo S$1,370 (available stocks)
MSColor S$1,350 (no stock)

It is the same with me. That is the same reason why I have decided, and got the E-410 instead.

The built quality of the E-510 is slightly not as good as the E-300, E-330 and definitely the L1 and is very obvious just by turning the dials. The built quality of the E-410 is however exactly the same as that of the E-510. The price difference between the E-510 and E-410 is so small that it makes the E-410 poor value for money when it comes to the advantages gained in getting the E-510 eg. extending the useability of all lenses with IS and ease of handling as in more direct function access buttons.

The only thing going for the E-410 is its cute small size and that could be actually construed as a disadvantage to some people (like me). When I held it, I kept having the nagging feeling that I am going to drop the camera because there's so little of it to hold on to and difficult to balance when even slightly larger lenses are attached to the camera. This can be very tiring both mentally and physically (as I tended to grip harder in such situations) over a long day's shoot. I suppose that there is always some work-arounds like getting used to it with time or holding onto the lens more etc, but first impression counts. The other deal-killer for me is the smaller and exclusive battery used by the E-410. It would lasts shorter and I can't make use of the many spare batteries that I have gotten for my E-330 and ex-E-300.

Functions-wise, the E-510 and E-410 are far, far better than the E-330 and E-300. Besides better low noise performance at high ISO, AF is a lot faster and more responsive even under low lighting conditions and the auto white balance is much better as is also the flash exposure.... all important photographic considerations.

The way the menu system or the access to the various items on the menu could be carried out on the E-410 and E-510 is far better and faster than in the E-300/330 and the L1. Also in the E-410 and E-510, I was pleasantly surprised that the orientation sensor works also during playback whereas in the older cameras and also most other brands' cameras, it only work during recording. Those interested in seeing these features in action could check out the E-510 video tour at Camera Labs' review.

Interesting how we differ in opinion over the handling and feel of both cameras. I feel that the E-510 is more flimsy and plasticy than the E-410. The complain on the dials, though, I have to agree with you. I am constantly more cautious about "spinning" it unlike how I would freely do so on the E-1. For me, there is really no problem with the smallish size of the E-410 because my main support when holding the camera with lens is with my left hand. Not the right. Guess this is something cultivated from the film days.

Guess when we meet, I will have to look at your hands. I believe you have a much bigger hand than me.

You can let it go in the used market. And then upgrade.

True...but how much can it fetch?..not worth it to let go cos it's only 3 months old. Should have waited for this lovely E510....how come I don't see this coming.:mad2:

Is this price available at all harvey norman outlets? Or is it special price given by the salesman?

42mm is still 42mm regardless of what its 35mm format equivalent is.

2 stops image stabilisation compensation for 42mm means it can be handheld at about 1/10 if hands are not too shaky.

Usually, image stabilisation helps in about 2-3 stops below the 1/actual focal length guideline for not so shaky hands. At 42mm, the guide is about 1/5 -1/10 for handheld shots.

The E510 was announced on 5rd March pre-PMA 2007.

Before that, there were rumours of a succesor to E500 coming since the E400 was launched for Europe earlier.

Is the AF speed on the E510 faster than that on the E500 (while using the same lens?)

Thanks~!! :)

The image stabiliser on camera body is definitely a good feature to have instead of paying the manufacturers (notably Canon and Nikon) more for every lens which you want a stabiliser.

Canon and Nikon are reluctatnt to move towards having the stabiliser on the body because they want to continue earning more from their huge sales of lens with stabiliser. Thanks to manufacturers like Olympus, Sony and Pentax, consumers are now better off.

S$1299? Really? Do you have to haggle & bargain with the salesman to get this price?

I didn't know that one can bargain at Harvey Norman... this is news to me... can someone verify this? From what I know, the price of S$1299 was given by someone who works in HN Funan Centre. So those who want to investigate this pricing, can call Funan and check if they have units available. No point heading down and then told that there are no stocks.

True true. I know that some regular harvey norman customers get special prices or freebies from the salesman that they regularly buy from. But that's a darn good price and got stock some more. Was at AP and CP on wed and they told me no stock. :dunno:
