Hi, I recently purchased a Akira DVD-3128H player for $34 at Giant ;p
This is my first DVD player, I also purchase some DVD from Giant and somehow I cannot play these DVD. I either get blank screen or nothing happen. I can play VCD, I connect via the supplied RCA cable. I also tried using a component cable (Blue, Red, Green), switch my LCD TV to component input but there was no display at all. From your experience, is my DVD:

1. Not compatible with the DVD disc (I saw the box stated code 9)
2. DVD is having some problem
3. Connection issues, what can I try?

When I switch to RCA input, I can see the DVD configuration when I press setup button. I can't see anything when I switch my input to component input. Press setup and the screen is blank.

Any clue for me?

blank screen = either wrong color setting, or progressive setting error.

never use b4 akira...

but if u wanna try, just off your progressive in your dvd player 1st. using the RCA.
then on your tv, go to the component input, and see if the screen is there... if not, go back to rca input.
then check color setting is it Y'PbPr or RGB, need to be both the same before you can view. depending on some LCD TV, my living room 1, set wrong color, at most show funny color, my room 1 (same brand, different model) will show blank screen...
after that then on the progressive to check once more...

My TV:

AV2 = SCV
AV3 = Component (Akira DVD-3128H)
AV1 = VCD RCA if connect (Akira DVD-3128H)

Akira back:
(Y(green)---Pb/Cb(blue)---Pr/Cr(red)) | (RCA video(yellow))
RCA L(white)---RCA R(red) | Coaxial + S-Video

DVD Setup Menu:
Video Out Selections - (1)S-Video (2)Component (3)P-Scan

I have tried 2 & 3, connect the component cable to LCD; unplugged RCA input and same blank screen.

??

If I can use RCA to play VCD, I should be able to see DVD too am I right? I either get blank screen or nothing happen or sometime "bad disc" when I put these DVD in. I have only 6 DVD all purchase from giant and all the same problem. Are they incompatible with the DVD player?

wah how u read my instructions 1... need me to give step by step?

1) Go AV1, disable progressive on dvd
2) Go AV3, check got image anot, if have, stop, dun have go step 3
3) Go AV1, go into menu see if output is set Y'PbPr or RGB
4) Go AV3, set tv to match dvd component output, if unable to change, then RTFTVM
5) Go AV1, set dvd player to match tv if step 4 have error
6) Go AV3, if works, ok, dun work... bo pian...

you should see the same screen as composite & component... best way is RTFM both TV & DVD manual, check if both use same component setting anot...

now i get it... ah chey...

u can read vcd cannot read dvd, must be the dvd function error, bring back to change a new unit...

Is the TV system set to auto? might be the NTSC OR PAL thingy i guess

I tried both PAL and NTSC, there is an autoscan too, all cannot. Is current DVD still have the country code compatibility? If giant sold these DVD, I guess they should be compatible rite?

My basic instinct told me should be dvd setting or function malfunction since I can play vcd right? Don't know what to do already...

Borrow Codes 01 & 03, your player should b able to play these.

Aiyah... DVD player spoil lah. Go and change one.

Ya. the DVD got problem. Bring down to Akira they ask me to wait 2 weeks. I can play 2 disc out of 10 DVD so I guess the decoder software s-uc-ks.

Code 9 is good.
It is region free.

Check your DVD from Giant.

Is it DVD R- DVD R+ DVD RW+ DVDRW-
DVD RL DVD Ram ?

Check if Akira can play the type you bought.

tell u dun believe me... :(

Ask DCA to your house for a check up on your connection, give him $20 for that, your problem solved, haha! :bsmilie:

If you can watch VCD, that's mean connection is right. Another thing is that most DVD player (DVD ROM might not) does support multi region and so, it should play what you put in. Try another disc, maybe current one faulty. I used low end Enzer n brought 2 yrs back but no problem on my disc. All the best in ur troubleshoot. ;)

The usual problem with this type of DVD player is the connection between Flat Flexible Cable (FFC) and the Optical Pick-up Unit (OPU). I simply clean the contacts with an eraser and that's it. Just like cleaning the RAM of your PC.
