Akarui or Digicab Dry Cabinet

I had brought a Digicab 30 litre dry cabinet last saturday. The hydrometer show 95%
never come down at all.
I went down to exchange a new hydrometer from Digihub today.
Install back ,set the dial to 12 o'clock position ( The green light show )and monitor the RH.
Its 5 hours now and the RH drop to 58. Do you all think this is normal ?

I bought mine - same brand and size with you - about 2 weeks back.
AFAIK, it depends on how humid your room and the gears inside.
I ran mine empty at first, set at 12, took around 3-4 hours to reach 50%. Put gears inside, increase the dial a little bit, bingo! 45%-50% daily.

So yeah, I assume yours is normal.

Power consumption is 3W. I understand that it costs less than $1 per month.

172L is huge. I think it is as big as a family sized refrigerator. You have lots of equipment? Mine is 70L and costs $260 with some freebies thrown in. Per litre wise, $540 for 172L is more worth it.

Oh what freebies did you get? mine sharing? :) I'll most probably get the 172L. Yeap it's pretty tall a dry cabinet and something like family-sized fridges but it's slimmer though I wish it could be fatter.

I'll be buying for my company's use to store video and photography equipment. ;)

do you guys remember when there was no Akurai or DigiCabi? Back pre 2000? CP had only Made in Japan cabinet. I paid over $800 for 100L back then, so..... yeah.. made in China.. damn cheap, just buy it.

172 liter... you can also think about buying two smaller cabinet. The advantage is that you can put them in different locations, or put stuff you don't use often in one cabinet. The cost is about the same.

true for the freeplay to place them at different areas but I think for me, it's better to have central cable for the whole cabinet. Neater and less hassle. :)

and it's like "wow!" you paid $800 for 100L in the past! Seems like the 172L is really becoming seemingly more affordable. :bsmilie:

The freebies are:
1) 1 Lowepro shoulder bag for compact camera or 1 lens.
2) 1 blower
3) Lens and sensor cleaning equipment

All are useful to me.

Digicab and Akarui basically have the same quality its just that Akarui is slightly more expensive than Digicab...the former consist analog while the latter has digital hygrometer

hi guys.. my budget is arnd 150.. any recommendation?

DIGI PRICE LIST

Frankly, i think its not about your budget but what size you need. For me, i think the best value for money is the 70L.

I have had the 30L and changed to the 70. My experience so far with digi...no problems at all. From 30 to 70, i do realise it took longer to get back to 45 range but that i attribute that to the size of the cab.

Ordered mine from digihub by email, sent the next day, COD. Just could not be bothered to go to the shops to buy and pay and ask for delivery when I can do it all in 1 min over email.

2 of my other friends have ordered the Digi this way and so far no problems unless they no stock. They too have not complained about the Digi. Now I am wondering if i need to get another 70L....haiz, regret selling 30L

Another thought, would it be better to buy 2 seperate cab over 1 big one? in case 1 spoil, your most expensive item can be transferred to the working cab? just a thought :dunno::sweat:

ohh haha den do u wanna sell me ur 30l ! my room no space

Hi,
Not quite sure if it's appropriate to ride on this thread but I'm gonna just try my luck.
I bought an Akurui Dry Cabinet (E26D) today to store my Canon 500D but I'm not quite sure on the conditions that will make it suitable i.e. temperature & humidity.

The dial was set on default at Medium but the red light went off a while ago. I've tried twisting the dial around a bit & now the light only comes on when I've set it to Low.

Was wondering if anyone could help me out a little here. Is there anything I'm not doing right etc; I don't quite dare to put my camera in just yet.

Thanks! :)

 RTFM

there should be a section "Storage" under "Camera Care" or something similar. It will mention the humidity and temp levels. Typically, it mentioned as 60% but recommended is 45~50%.

ps: and whatever the reading maybe, it will be drier than the room its kept in - so dont sweat, just put your gear in

Akarui has *much* better shelving, that in itself is reason enough to choose the Akarui.

also, the analogue gauge looks pretty funky. Quite apart from that I found the Digicabi hygrometers look quite tacky.

that said Digcabi is widely available and slightly cheaper
