Than one need to stand far from the object to take the snap, would it be very limited in it usage? I ask this as I got a 50 mm 1.8 g which I find ver limited in the view finder. Thus with 85mm I can't figure out in what sense it to be use.

The focusing for 85 f1.8D was very fast, the subject just pop into focus almost instantaneously whereas the 1.4G was very slightly & perceptably slower. The wider aperture dont seem to help to make focusing in low light better. I think the contrast & shape of the subject is more important for fast & accurate focusing. Didnt compare the 1.8D vs G though.
in practical use for portrait when using a d90, which is a more recommended lens, 1.8D or 1.8G?

Now to off-load my faithful AF 85mm f/1.8.

But still undecided due to price differenceü

Maybe I will take some time to test the 1.8 vs the 1.8G before selling. Or maybe I should keep the good old faithful 1.8 for memory sake.
