Bro, AFD version, the sound is quite loud when AF using the motor from the cam body....I have the 50mm f/1.4 AFD; not sure if it is as loud :dunno:
Later, when you do video recording you get the AF noise...AFS good! Buy! Must Buy!

1) I prefer that the focusing speed be faster.
2) LoCA present, but not that pronounced.

Picked up mine from the nice guys at TK FOTO last night at 6PM they only had two !!
Ok - my summary so far after 20 photos:
- Bigger size - perhaps 5% bigger.
- Sharper in the corner wide open - slightly.
- Focus speed the same - nothing great like the older one.
- Focus distance - perhaps 2-5cm closer.
- Obv nice and quiet due to AF-S.
- Slightly Warmer Skin tones - I do like that... this will come from the Nano Coat.
- Focus ring - smooth and firm to rotate... I like that - sign of high accuracy inner's.
- Heavy duty plastic body - like my 24 1.4 Nikkor ( insides metal like the 14-24 / 24-70 ).
- Hood - Nice and Big!! But the same super crappy thin plastic like the new VR2 70-200. ( I'm buying both of these hoods to sit around as spares )
Worth it?
Well I waited two years for this.... compared both "new and old" in the shop and got this... so I'm happy bro's !! :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Focusing, how does focusing speed compared to the old one in low light conditions. Also in backlighting? Curious to know.
I got mine today after ordering it yesterday. I didn't do any test yet but here's a photo I thought you guys might be interested in it.. straight from D700, resized in photoshop. Shot at f/1.4.

hey can you shoot something that gives a lot of bokeh fringing on the old 85mm (should not be too difficult) and try the same shot on the new 85mm?
That is probably the biggest single problem of the AFD. thanks
