Hi,

I have about $4000 to spare for body + lenses + batt + flash.

Body: D80 - $1480
Batt: $90
Flash: SB600 - $360
Lenses: Left with about $2000. Need recommendation for lenses that can cover portrait, product and wedding. Importantly have good bokeh as am a super bokeh fan!

Really appreciate any advice. Scratching my head hard on what to get within the budget!

AF 85 F1.4mm ED...best for it bokeh for portrait.

For product & close up, the 105MM VR Mirco F2.8 ED will be good.

Actually the 105MM VR Mirco F2.8 ED can be use for portrait too, but the bokeh not as good as AF 85 F1.4mm ED.

Really good recommendation bro! I had my mind set on 85mm f/1.4 too. It cost $1600. Am left with $400 and I can't afford the 105mm VR Micro f/2.8 ED for product.

Sign :(

So I was wondering whether I should get the 18-135mm kit lens and get 85mm f/1.4, where the latter can do product shots too? My stuff are not exactly small like pearls or something. More like camera to sofa size.

What do you think? Many thanks!

18-135mm kit lens will be good enough for product like bigger size item. On the other hand why not consider the a second hand 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF (around $500-$600). It have mirco function 1:2 which is good for smaller item.

Buy both lense used. Problem solved.

Beside getting Body: D80 - $1480
Batt: $90
Flash: SB600 - $360
Get the 60mm/2.8 for macro and product shot ( $600 )
50mm/1.4 and 85mm/1.8 for product and portraits shot ( $400 + $600 )
18-70mm for normal wedding shot ;) ( $400 )

I like this setup.
85mm 1.8 is very good already.

Bro, check out the tamron. Well regarded for both macro with great bokeh for potrait.

ABout 650-700 should be within your budget.

How about a 24-85mm f/2.8-4 A pretty good lens to use I must say. Can be used for practically all kinds of shoots. What's more, it can be used as a micro lens even though the ratio is 1:2. But having used it for quite a number of years, I think its really a good lens.

Nikon has even came out with the lower range version of the 24-85 f/3.5-4.5. Butwith that budget, you can surely get the f/2.8-4 one. Should cost below $1000 now. with the rest of your money, you can perhaps get a portraiture or micro lens. If not you can baiscally save that money. =D

And you dont need to spend so much on batteries as well. I don't really feel that you need to get the original batts from nikon. Any other battery that serves the same purpose should be alright.

No.. Get the PC-Micro 85/2.8 for products. ;p

Price wise... quite a lot of diff....

PC-micro 85/2.8 $2000 at least
60 micro 2.8 $595
