andrewine,
What setting was "Golden Messe Leaves" (photo 310) on the E-PL2?
Thanks.
Hi Jimmy.........The setting I use are: ISO 200, 1/100s; f/5.6; 42mm FL; WB cloudy; Flash -Nil; Exp bias -0.7; Aperture priority;sRGB color; jpegs file; 6:6 aspect ratio format......And edit with Picasa 3 using the "I'm feeling Lucky" button........That is all my friend..........simple and easy!
thanks andy...
i can't imagine what happened mainly because i do not have picasa 3.
nevertheless, "why WB cloudy?" is one question i would like answered.
i can clearly see that the sun was shining on the leaf.

Hi Jimmy........Picasa 3 is a free software which can be easily downloaded from the net.......I use it as my photo browser and its easy to use simple editing tools to do all my "quick n dirty" checking for my thousand and thousand of archived pictures...........it's fast, easy and simple to use and any mistakes can be "undo" easily ......don't know why people don't use them?
But of course once a potential shot has been identified I will switch to CS2 for more creative editing possibilities......... ;-P!
Yes ......good question.......why use cloudy?
I always use the LCD screen to check my shots.......adjust the whatever settings (eg, WB; exposure, art filter.... etc etc) till you are satisfied with the shots......... if it doesn't look good one can always re-shoot the shots till the cows come home ..... after all SD card is cheap.
With Oly cams one can always get very accurate colors and WB from the LCD screen...........This is one of the reasons why I shoot all my shots in Jpegs...... never bother with RAW.........too big and troublesome lei......take the Fun out of shooting and editing lei......hehe!
At the time of the shot it was already in the late afternoon with the sun setting low over the horizon so naturally I felt that the 'cloudy' WB would be ideal to create a richer and warmer ambient tone to the feel of the shots...........
As mentioned before many of my shots are gut feel thingy ........anyway I seldom follow those technical stuff.......like WB has to be right and horizon has to be leveled, limbs cannot be cut off, sharpness, graininess and many many more..........
How can anyone possibly be creative when one has to follow all those rules and laws........start thinking out of the box.
Many think that my shots are all Photoshop created but the reality is that they are all made in the camera by adjusting those WB, speed, aperture, focus, ISO plus even more if you are shooting with Oly Art Filters........
Never erase your mistakes from your camera.....always learn from them....... this is by far the most commonest mistake a novice photographer make..........from what I observed. ;-)
Just my 2 cents worth of sharing........a word of caution: My advice might not be suitable for everyone out there........
An archived street portraiture shot using my favorite wide-angle lens for you my friend.........Cheers!

thanks, for the great reply. really appreciated it!
I always urge those who wants to learn about photography is to train by shooting with a a basic camera and its kit lens first. This way it will train your eye to see thru' the kit lens for lightings conditions, composition, moment etc......................and at the same time forces you to think out of the box on how to capture a picture when opportunities comes along without relying too much on those modern and advance technology ......... this may sound very old school philosophy but it will strengthen the basic fundamentals like handling techniques and shooting strategies.
Those are very true and wise words! i for one have been guilty of what you say and have fallen into a lens buying addiction thinking i can do this or do that if i had this or that lens... well, all that has been counterproductive to some extent because you end up failing to strengthen the fundamentals... i think i shall pop my cheap kit lens back on and see if i can achieve better with it (or better still a simple cheap prime lens)... continue inspiring us, friend!
Thanks GSiGuy..............Don't forget your cheap Oly kit lens is one of the best around in the market........
And Oly Prime lenses 12mm/f2 and the 45mm/f1.8 are coming soon......you might not be able to resist the temptation..........And also E-P3 is simply AWESOME.........totally unbelievable........Those competitors better run for the hills..........Olympians are finally coming!
The AF is lighting fast and the high ISO is silky smooth............the 12mm is simply a beauty in the making........utterly irresistible..........cannot 'tahan' liao almost the bought the camera on the spot.......luckily they have only one sample in the whole of Singapore........its for display in the Oly showroom.
Any way I tried the Wide-angle and the Fish-eye converters for the Kit Lens, I think they are very good considering the price and the versatility........and especially for my style of shooting.......it's hustle free don't have to worry of changing lenses and dusts........just twist it on the front of the kit lens and GO!
sad to say i don't own a pen or epl (almost 90% was gonna buy one til i picked up a DSLR at the shop instead)... i'm now a pentaxian.
but like you guys, the kit lens is also one of good qualityso i share an affinity with the olympians and i keep being inspired by your work!
Nice series!
nice series, as usual... the epl2 is loving you!
can't help it; "bulge" came to mind for "la vie en rose"?![]()
