A850: budget FF?

Perhaps this was what I had been waiting for... before I took the plunge and bought the A900... which was like almost $4000...

i share your sentiments....but difference is...my budget stopped me from splurging on an A900. :bsmilie:

u can use A900 as your main and A850 as your backup then.

then how about the A5xx?? is it ff too?

Sony versioning is quite simple to understand. A9xx is better than A7xx; A7xx is better than A3xx; A3xx is better than A2xx. So, A8xx should be in between A9xx and A7xx, and, A5xx should between A7xx and A3xx.

So, if A700 is a APS, and A500 and A550 is classified as lower range, then it should be another APS camera body. If we look at the naming of A300, A330, A350 and A380, A550 would most likely same as A500 with higher MP.

Of course, we all assume so far, Sony is continuing this convention.

or if we follow the A200 - A350 footsteps, perhaps the A500 and A550 will not have live view / have live view.

Definitely not. FF is still a price premium. I'd see the 5XX series as semi-pro, not as pro-build as the A700, but more features than the 2XX and 3XX series.

It can also be with video recording and without video recording. :D

Anyway... We are all speculating here...

This is the sign that I must stop dreaming about tamron 17-50mm f2.8 and sigma 50-150mm f2.8 because this is only for APS-C (and I still penniless)?

 Yah ! A850 low cost FF :cheergal:

Dun u guys think the naming sounds like Boeing airbus? :bsmilie::bsmilie:

But i think a cheaper FF is great!!:lovegrin:

More info regarding the "Exmor R" CMOS sensor that has been rumor to be used in A850.

The new “Exmor R” CMOS Sensor is twice as sensitive as conventional CMOS sensors thanks to back-illuminated technology that places metal wiring beneath the photo diode instead of above it. Since light is used more efficiently, you can enjoy smoother movement in action sequences and higher image quality in dark conditions such as night scenes.

Boeing and Airbus are 2 different companies. The sony naming convention is a lot like Airbus, not Boeing.

Pardon me, i'm kind of mix up with these 2 :bsmilie::bsmilie: U frequent flyer?

So what do u guys think of the chances that the new A850 will use Exmor sensor? I've played with their broadcast cam using that sensor & i feel its really good!! :D

This rumor started because of an announcement from Sony.

http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/twilight-football

Sony is celebrating the power of its low light photography technology by hosting a unique event, Twilight Football. The event will kick off on 22 September 2009 and 7 football matches will take place in 7 stunning world locations to show how Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor technology captures incredible detail and fast-moving action in low light filming conditions – one of the toughest challenges in digital camera photography.

From the description, this seems to give some hints on a new camera using this sensor (A850??) and the possible announcement/release date (before the event, I think).

Thx for the link. :)

Can't wait to see the 1st samples from this new sensor, either from A550 or A850 also good ;)

If the A850 uses the A900 sensor (maybe "dumbed down" to only 3fps or something) then it's definitely not the Backlit Exmor R sensor.

Possible.

Rumors are spreading like wild fire...

Will be interesting to see how Sony will price the budget FF. Pyschologically , pricing it under 3k will attract alot many buyers. Hopefully they annouce more new lenses to go with this FF model :)

No harm guessing anyway, I too agree that it could be with video recording(A5xx), to compete with 500D.

Very interesting indeed. A ~2.5k FF will definitely snap lots of users to Sony camp. Still we need a confirmation A850 will be a FF.

The thing about these speculations/rumours is that many do not believe or even be a wet blanket when certain features or specs are being discussed and when the final product is officially announced, they will then criticise again why this and that was not included...

Hard to satisfy everyone...
