A7r mk2

Just collected my La ea3 ($220) from TK at Funan.

Tested in the shop with my 70-400 G II.
PDAF is very quick. The green box dances around as if you're using a native FE mount lens. It is sharp and accurate too.

However, the CDAF is very bad. I will say it is unusable. Took 2-4 second to get a focus. Really slow and hunting much.

hehe why would you wanna use CDAF when the a7r2 has 399 pdaf points :)

Just trying bro.
Also to add. In room condition. Trying to focus at 400mm F5.6 6400 iso. About 1/60. It hunts alittle as well. But will get there.
Outdoors condition. No problem.

Pity. The haze getting really bad. Else im suppose to go to the zoo today. Mehh..

i'm still thinking if i want to get the laea3...the only A lens i have is a 70300G lens and i use the LAEA4 for that one..i dunno if it's better to get rid of the laea4 and get the laea3 or just stick with the laea4 since i almost never use the 70300 lens..

Try the La ea3 and see if you like it? But If u are already happy with the la ea4 on that setup. Then dont bother.

In any case. Money wise. Shouldnt be much problems. If you sell the 4 to get the 3.

Too much pdaf and I need to revert to old ways to get the focus which h wanted. Fps not fast enough to make use of the pdaf, quite wasted.

I used a7r for the parachuting moment recently. Haven't view on pc but should be good as I switched to manual focus before start. :)

anyone notice that after 1.1 update, the picture profile and creative style become exclusive?
i.e. if you set picture profile, the creative style will be gray out to Standard.

i noticed this because all my preview jpgs seems looks like washed out after the update.

my understanding that picture profile only affects Movie shooting, right? why it needs to be exclusive to the creative style?

Something interesting I found.

Sony a7r II Review – Dynamic Range Compared to Canon 5DsR, Canon 1Dx and Nikon D810..

Too long the video..So what is the conclusion? Which one is the best?

I watched the 4K video comparison between a7rii and ip6s. Interesting results.

Anyone using a RRS L-plate for A7Rm2?

I am also using one. While this one i'm using is perfect in terms of fit and build... there is something I don't think I quite like... the width of the vertical plate and the horizontal plate is few millimetres different. I am using a lever release clamp for the convenience to switch between portrait and landscape orientation. With the difference in width, I have to adjust the clamp everytime I switch... which is quite stupid, i feel....

What I like to know is if the RRS one has the same width on both plates. Also I like the fact that, the vertical plate can be shifted out so I can connect cables with no problems.

Using a 3rd party China L plate for my camera. So far so good, and it costs a fraction of the RRS plate

If you are willing to splurge i think the rrs is probably the best L plate you can get. Especially if u need cable access in portrait mode.

I cannot speak for the RRS A7r mk2 plates. But I have been using RRS plates for all my cameras and I can safely say that with lever release clamps, there has been absolutely no issue whatsoever.

I use an RRS clamp which feels the same as far as tension goes when locking down.

I'm not using lever type release so I don't have such issues.

I use an additional raise clamp to allow using wired remotes when in portrait mode.

Don't like to loosen the L plate to extend the vertical piece every time I want to use it in portrait mode

G-man, do you mind to help me verify 1 thing? Can you help me measure the width of the horizontal and vertical sliding plate of your RRS L bracket?

just curious..you manage to disable the CDAF? How?
I also bought the laea3 and sold my laea4 and kinda regretted now because the AF on the lead isn't fast at all and hunts all the time...probably because of the CDAF..i don't see the CDAF square though..i only see the small green squares.

What is the lead you are referring to. Laea3 or laea4.
