what do you mean by "nothing changed much"?

from the LCD screen you can tell very clearly that the contrast and tonal gradation is smoother on the A7RII.

unless of course, your settings were completely different

It's checking for color smearing from non retrofocus lens design.

Giving the indoor lighting it wasn't easy to induce this as the smear is more apparent under day light

Then you should say so in the first place. you would have made everyone think that the A7RII is not worth the upgrade.

View photos on small screen won't be able to see much diff. Like 4k TV if Want to harness its full potential recommended at least 65inch & above

Who would want to determine their upgrade base on these 2 lcds. Wait for more proper reviews. Lol.

This 21mm Biogon is a symmetrical design and in fact Zeiss does not even recommend its use with the M9, due to the corner discoloration. If you are getting this issue even with the A7S, which is probably the sensor most likely to work with wide angle rf lenses, then it is not likely the A7r ll can show any improvement. However, if this is purely a corner discolouration problem, you can try Cornerfix or Adobe Flat Field plug-in to remove this effect. In the case of my the Leica 21mm Elmarit-Asph, the issue is corner and edge smearing. This cannot be corrected by using software. Leica had to use a thinner than usual UV/IR filter over the sensor to eliminate this smearing problem. But with the M8 the glass was too thin and therefore the IR filter was not effective enough to block all the IR. This gave rise to the infamous magenta cast with certain black synthetic materials.

On another note, the severity of the colored corner to those who knows the matter would be enough to either tick or tick off their checklist.

Great info,

A few days earlier there was a rumor going that the A7rmk2 solved the corner discoloration problems. Again through a quick check to the LCD. As I took my try with the camera, I too experience lesser corner discoloration and was truly impressed and raised some hope in this tiny awesome lens!.

That was until I compared it with the A7s to find out that the situation was hard to induce indoors

Actually the corner magenta cast is a huge improvement vs the original a7r. The a7s was much better in the corners vs the a7r. So if the 42mp a7r2 performs the same as a 12mp a7s. It is a huge improvement from the bsi sensor.

abit of blue on the right, not signs of casting on the left. i'm thinking if the blue color came from the strobe on the right, as the rest of the room is yellow light. When i was using the A7r, i know that all 4 corners will give severe purple casting. this looks like the acceptable types of corners on the a7s.

Wah... now u r tempting me... Keke... anyway, unless have proven review that truly shows the huge improvement on the color cast, A7RII still a 50/50 for me... Wait for the demo sets to test in our SD cards n compare

For those who shoots purely on the 21mm Biogon and have no other lenses .. then there are many other cams out there with perfect perfect corners. I believed the A7R II is way more than that and I have used the Tri-elmar WATE and other legacy lenses on the A7 series with great success.

The lighting was bad.

Blue/White LEDs mixed with yellow/orange lights, with some green tint.

tsk tsk

when i was editing the event photos afterwards i had a headache :(

Ever since the problem of these lenses w digital, they have been slowly dissapearing from some of our gear list or moving further behind in the dry cabinets.. This lens holds a special marvel in terms of performance and size, just looking for the next miracle at the sensor end to bring these tiny guys back to life without bring out the stop bath and fixers

Anyone know anyshop is doing preorder for it now? Sony center is not taking any order at the moment. I tot sony is launching on 6/8?

Officially there is no preorder but your usual camera shops would have been building up a list. Some have asked for deposits to be placed to secure that placing on the list. Heard some have stopped taking 'preorders' as they might not be able to get enough units. Your best bet if you have not put your name down is to go to any of the Sony shops on the 6th when they open to get your unit.

Metabones is a 3rd party adapter right? How much does it cost for a a7rII to a canon mount 1.

Cathay's website states it costs $579 for an EF-to-E mount smart adapter. Mark IV version.

Nope you will not be able too, I just called sony imm, a lady told me 313 is only the launch shop and all other sony will get it on the next shipment and 313 sony stock is fully reserved, I missed their call and called back like half hour later
and they told me is all fully reserved, for those who walked in that day you will only be allowed to try and not purchase , you have to wait for the next shipment..
