Hi everyone,
thought I would join this thread as I now have a Sony A7rii - bought in the US the day it was released (I was there on holiday) and took it to Iceland for 2 weeks and again NYC for a week. My Lenses:
Sony 16-35
Sony 28-70
Canon 70-200L
Adaptor: Viltrox
My observations with working with the camera now for over a month if anyone interested:
Awesome camera and fantastic DR, With Native lens focusing spot on and fast! with 70-200L (Canon) and Viltrox adaptor - as fast as on Canon in good light some occasional misses in low light.
Does not work well with Sigma lenses at all (Viltrox Adpt) - occasionally focuses bit most times just wont focus unless on Manuel mode and even then struggles - I have a pro friend in the US having the same problems with the metabones adaptor. I will say I didn't buy the Camera with using the Canon lenses in mind, I bought it knowing I was going to buy native lenses so I do get a little annoyed when I see people write about issues when using non-native, yes would be nice but reality is the camera is a Sony not a Canon/Nikon etc. Anyway thats my personal grip and defence - everyone to their own opinion
Clunky interface and def not intuitive like a Canon!! Some great feature and its feature packed but reality is most wont use half them and its a hassle to get around the menu system for sure. In saying that though; I have had the camera now for over a month and have it set up to how I like it (almost identical to the Canon) and it works for me.
Form factor is obviously smaller and this takes getting used to but I like it and it feels great in my hand much better than prev Sony's - yes stick a 70-200L on it and the weight saving is negligible
The Viltrox adaptor works well and is reasonably built - not as solid as the metabones but essentially does the same job and is $99
We had 2 x A7rii's in Iceland one with Metabones and one with Viltrox really there is little difference in actually working but yes the metabones is a little more solid (and can be updated with firmware down the track) hard to justify the extra expense (for me anyway) For now thats all I can be bothered to write - I hope all who have this camera is enjoying it as much as I am if not bummer
