Well... Why would a company introduce those features in a camera where 95% of people who buy it wouldn't understand what you're saying, rather than have you upgrade to the semi-pro model designed for people who do exposure bracketing, HDR, etc etc?

There is an exposure bracketing on the A200/300/350, too bad it's +/-0.7. There is a self timer on those as well, too bad there is no mirror lockup.

Why Sony put up those half-assed efforts is beyond me, probably they've been working with Nikon for too long?

Nikon D60 doesn't have AF in the body, so does it mean its half-assed effort too?

Canon 500D doesnt have tiltable LCD, does it mean its half-assed effort too?

How useful a +/- 0.7 EV HDR bracketing is? How hard is it to implement a MLU when you've already got a timer?

Defense Sony whatever way you like, but it's not gonna make the brand any stronger. When I started this whole photography stuff more than half a year ago, I picked Sony simply because nothing beat the A200 at its price point, nothing was even close. Things have changed lots since then.

The bracketing wasn't meant for HDR at the first place. It was just to help you choose the proper exposure shot out of the 3 shots.

It was until HDR was quite a hot thing before Sony starts to think about +/- 2.0ev

Thats why they added it in the new firmware for a700

I expect them to add in the future firmware of a200/a300/a350

Bracketing was already available in the first AF SLR's manufactered by Minolta. That it is now being used for HDR purposes is pretty much a side discussion. I use it regularly without having the urge to merge, just to get indeed the exposure I am looking for since I am not always sure about the metering. Ie. I take one or two bracket shots and based on the outcome I adjust the camera for the entire session to come, provided there are no dramatic changes.

Precisely this is what bracketing is all about.

You obviously have no clua at all about a basic thing called "market segmentation".

If Sony offered those features in a budget cam, why would people get an A700.

Cry a river, but it sounds to me like you're spoiled and whining because you can't have all your high-end features in a budget body.

If you are not willing to pay for the features, don't complain if you don't have them. If anything, your research before purchase was half-assed.

A company that offers the same fatures in a cheap body that they offer in the semi-pro body is going to shoot themselves in the foot.

So stop complaining and shoot more pictures.
