and full-frame please....

wouldn't that address a different market than a700 replacement crowd?

an FF cam would be gearing towards a700 "upgraders", no?

Sounds good but may not be practical
It's more applicable for small pics.
Imagine 1 jpeg pic of few Mb and each image takes a few minutes to transmit wireless :what:

Few minutes? :nono:
Wireless g can have 54 Mbit/s or around 20Mbit/s throughput while n up to 600 Mbit/s or 300Mbit/s throughput. Transmiting jpeg or even raw should be a snap. It is especially useful in the studio environment

As you said, probably useful for studio environment, or for usage like those at zoo/birdpark etc? Where they take a shot for you and few minutes later can collect from the entrance?

Wireless capability for commercial is useful so does for home users. Eliminate the process of taking in and out memory card, leceh

Think he was referring to bluetooth file transfer (like what we have between mobile phone and PC). From my experience, bluetooth performance is not so fantastic. If the file is large, like RAW file, it may takes minutes to finish the transfer.

Wifi performance is good, however, for wifi, knowledge of some networking is require (SSID, pass phrase blah blah blah), setting up of IP, configuring the PC as server for receiving files (this may include services like FTP), and configuration of wifi AP ... so I would think, a bluetooth implementation is more likely here (between camera and PC). Since, for bluetooth file transfer, none of this is require, the PC software just have to accept the files when files are initiate by camera. This is easier to setup (from users point of view). However, in bluetooth, there maybe performance issue.

Unless, the file transfer is done over a public network and we upload the files into sites like facebook, then wifi would be easier. Since, the infrastructure has been built, for user, just scan the wifi network, connect and start uploading.

I do hear about new bluetooth standard that would address the performance issue, but see how lah...

I think bluetooh 3.0 is also possibe with the addition of 802.11 capability. Wireless transmitter in the body or from the usb port and a network receiver that connect to a router and software should be in the package. It is only how much Sony will sell those accesories.

Bluetooth 3.0 also makes use of 802.11 to attain their fast transfer speeds.

Oh.. sorry my bad
I've mistaken it for bluetooth.
Yep, it'll probably takes a sec (801g) or 4 sec (801b) for ~5Mb pic.

For Canon & Nikon, their WFT-E1 gadget are selling >>$1k and need a PC, network,.. set up.
Still it isn't possible like when firing continuous mode or when in the outdoor.

So far I feel sony's design is not as good as minolta. I really wish they would go for minolta design. You see the A700 tone down design compared to D7D is like a class backward though the features are rich. This is what i mean...

Same sentiments, except that Sony's menu & screen is better. With that much external controls though,
how often do we need to go into the menu.:bsmilie:

The current A700 is good, I'm waiting just for few reasons,

-AF micro adjustment is quite important, save the trouble of going to SSC.
-Newer sensor, batteries, parts etc. (I'm going to be stuck to this new body for a long long time, availability of spare parts for repair is an important point of consideration)
-Hopefully better AWB, I don't own an A700 but from the review by dpreview, the AWB doesn't seem that good.
-Newer cams might have better DR? (A700 is definitely better than the A100/KM5D I have but no harm waiting a few months for something better)

If only Sony would be kind enough to upgrade the firmware further, I doubt a replacement is necessary at all.

What I suspect might be removed in the upcoming model;
-I'm suspecting the grip sensor will be the first to go for the replacement.
Love the way it works with eye start cos I use it.
-Next is the x-sync socket, I've never had a need for it till I started using flash, definately
good to have if I don't want the onboard flash to fire, if it goes, means I've to buy an adapter. (Doubt I'll buy it :bsmilie:, really prefer to do w/o flash unless necessary)
-Wireless remote commander may no longer be included.

Won't even be thinking of upgrading had I not just dropped the cam & broke the mount of my A100.;(
Will check with SSC the cost of repair before I decide to upgrade.

Man this is good news!
A700 replacement is coming!

Specs like 15mp CMOS
Bionz ver2 engine
DRO+ v2
SSS v2
ISO goes up to 6400
and more goodies.
:bsmilie:

Hey.... weren't you the one drooling over the Pentax K7 just barely a day ago .......... :nono::bsmilie:

The missing dial is a big disappointment. Plus the handling grip is a downgraded to me. I would prefer the build of D7D over A700 anytime.
thats why i am reluctant to get an a700 :bsmilie:

And the rumours continue .. lol .. he did not mention the name for the replacement? Ie. A800 .. ;-)

Well, FACT is, in a number of countries the A700 model is no longer listed in Sony brochures. For what it is worth ..

i am thinking of upgrading to a FF cam ....haha

I believe the replacement for A700 maybe a FF Camera instead of APSC Format since A700 is a semi pro. As all of u know, canon and nikon had some semi pro DSLR using FF Sensor so that's a likely chance.

IMO, i think if a new ff comes out, it will not be a replacement of a700, may be an alternative for a900, like Canon 5d makrII for 1d.

Since the a230, a330, and a380 came out in 200 and 300 series, and i guess the replacement for a700 will be 700 series and may be it's a780/a730,I think it will be still aps-c.:)

Most prob they will include video capability to rival other brands

I hope to see the following in the new A700 replacement body:

- No change to the on-off button
- use of CF cards
- no change to battery
- better noise control
- faster AF
- 11 or 13 XX AF points
- micro adjustments for lenses like the A900
- better pricing

Yeah, I think everything can stay stagnant for a higher precision AF system across the frame...

XX af points spread in a much wider frame works for me... can really help me in framing and getting it, while micro adjustments would be very useful...

Happy with the Noise performance though.

hopefully their video recording is more compatible with most video editors. Canon and nikon DSLR Video recording modes is still far ahead of the HD video cams standard.
