Hi all brothers, the news we have been waiting for!!!

I just had a chat with one of the famous reputable shops and asked them when are the new A230, 330 and 380 will be in Singapore, at the same time asked them about the best price they can sell for A350 and A700 body....whether got special price or not...;p

You know what, they told me the distributor has informed them that A200, 300, 350 AND A700 will be discontinued by end of June!!! Yes, you didn't see wrongly and I didn't hear wrongly as I asked them many times, A700 will be discontinued as well!!!

So that means we should be expecting the announcement of A700 by next month and maybe available by July/Aug period...

Wonder any rumour news going on the web now....
Anyway a700 being discontinued doesnt necessarily mean a new model is going to be out soon.

it may not be true that a700 will discontinued. you may need to check sony official website sony.com to be ensured. Sony may be coming less stocks and that does not mean all these products will discontinued.Even for nikon they are still selling D200 models...By checking on normal shops though authorised by sony does not mean they give you all the accurate informations. Up till now sony only confirmed replacement bodies for A200 & A300 Series but not a breath of words on A700 series.

Well, the shops may be wrong or distributor may be wrong, but it doesn't matter to be hopeful right?

A200/A300 series was also leaked 1-2 weeks before the actual launch and Sony is quite well known for being tight on their new products launch.

Rather than many people blaming Sony for not coming out a replacement, now with some "possible" news yet people choose to doubt it...

Frankly speaking, even though a700 might be 'old' it is still good enough to be competitive with those newer models. So there is actually no rush for successor.

Yes bro, as much as I feel the same way to the extent of asking for price of a700 from that shop.

However, even before the launch of new a2xx/3xx series, people already complained about why no A700 successor, Now that Sony came out new bodies, people again complain why no higher-end body....

I have always thought to see many giving comments about "it's the photographer that makes the difference" in every other day. But when it comes to equipment upgrade issues, people still are not happy why their product are not given the upgrades they wished for.....mankind is really hard to impress....

frankly speaking,

every cameras i buy always genna discontinued. My 1st one A100 then A700 Haiz but i find out that they quite good. My A100 is now my backup camera while A700 will be my main stream camera.

I intended to budgeted a new full frame camera with liveview by sony in future if sony start producing more full frame lenses. Too restricted with their amount of full frame lenses. The only way to get full frame is to buy the old minolta alpha mount lenses or third parties.

Yes, same for me, got my a300 last year and within 6mths, it gets a facelift...

Anyway, unless we have a oil well at home, we will only buy the particular product after making sure it is well reviewed and tested and starting to save up for it. And by then it would have reached it's half-life product cycle and will be discontinued in few months time...

Guess this will goes on unless we buy it the moment it's launched....which would be definitely at least 20-30% higher than 1year later...

I hope to see the following in the new A700 replacement body:

- No change to the on-off button
- use of CF cards
- no change to battery
- better noise control
- faster AF
- 11 or 13 XX AF points
- micro adjustments for lenses like the A900
- better pricing

i think better pricing is just not possible. haha. Good to have a Live view as well!

So far I feel sony's design is not as good as minolta. I really wish they would go for minolta design. You see the A700 tone down design compared to D7D is like a class backward though the features are rich. This is what i mean...

I disagree... The build quality and ergonomics on the A700, especially with the joystick, are a class above the old Minoltas.

I completely agree with you Rashkae, the A700's build is definitely better than 7D :)

Better equipment discontinued than manufacture discontinued :p

and full-frame please....

As i always says stay with the first and use it to the end. A 700 is very good cam and affordable liao, so why chasing one after another, its like the computers age now , let us see how many more they are going to face lift it and pay for more that u didn't even use. Really buy the old A 700mm u will not regret.:bsmilie:

The missing dial is a big disappointment. Plus the handling grip is a downgraded to me. I would prefer the build of D7D over A700 anytime.

anywae the good thing about sony is their mount will always be the same not like canon and nikon whose entry level DSLR can only support certain type of mount not all the lenses.

I think one of their selling point is the wireless network ability. Pic is transmitted real time to computer after each shoot, neat. I wish they have wireless adaptor made for the current series.

Sounds good but may not be practical
It's more applicable for small pics.
Imagine 1 jpeg pic of few Mb and each image takes a few minutes to transmit wireless :what:
