1.7k is not so bad for such a good lens but topup some more and there is the 1.8 version![]()
Should be able to get around 1.6k
It doesn't seem to be within the limit. Try out the lens again when u recvd them back. The wisma centre had a varieties of bodies and lenses on display. Go try them out. I had the minolta 50mm 1.4 it isn't that soft
if you dun mind doing MF, its a very good lensYes! The only thing in my mind is the 135 STF STF STF ! ! !
I have never seen any thing like that in my life!
Can't believe its not talked about so much and no one knows about it![]()

depends on what u shoot lo. some ppl use it like once in a blue moon, some ppl use it for portraits always maybe. some ppl get so tired of MF that they switch to AF lensesI'm still wondering why that lens is not very popular, too expensive maybe, or ppl just afraid of MF... I'd get it in a heartbeat if i could afford![]()
Just to check... If I focus on a spot and its too close for the focusing distance, will the body still give a lock at the closest focusing distance?
But still :dunno:
My experience is that the camera will give up and the entire screen should be OOF.

My thoughts exactly
I think its the price and MF that does it
But I love MF lens, I had so many old clasic manual lenses on Nikon and loved them absolutely. I am sure this one will be on my camera 90% of the time, IF I GET IT
I might even sell the 50 1.4 if its really too soft and get the CZ 1680 as a general purpose lens, followed by a 135 f2.8 STF
Sony RRP is 1.7k+, not sure about shops' offers.
Its lower than 1.7 outside![]()
not sure if yr 50mm is a lemon anot..best is test with diff camera body then confirm...and yes STF is a joy to use..
Sorry to hear about your soft images. I'd just like to cover bases. Did you happen to put the AF selector to "C" or "A"? Maybe can try the test again by using selective AF point? I do get misfocuses on my A700 too at times, but I think it happens to any camera, and I'm very happy with it so far. Hope you will get to enjoy yours too.
These look great!imo f/1.4 should only be used for low light without flash pics~ where no other lenses can capture the moment, even though it might not be very sharp, but at least u get a decent picture.
i usually shoot at f/2.8.
f/1.4 in bright situations is almost unusable, as seen also here, they say it produces "veiling haze and color fringing"

some test shots with my 50mm :sweatsm: get nice and sharp at f/2.8.
focused on the 'B'
just love the smooth bokeh of this lens~
