OK, I've taken the initiative to write an e-mail to Canon Singapore with regards to this issue and I sincerely hope they give me a satisfactory answer. Clubsnap is a breeding ground for photographers and such inherent defects in cameras will certainly dissuade consumers from investing their money in these equipment. I'll understand if it's just 1 or 2 people wth problems, but from what I've seen so far, more than 5 or 6 of us (out of those few who actually OWN this camera and bothered to reply) have encountered this problem with the Canon Powershot A70. As follows is the e-mail to Canon HQ.

To Whom It May Concern:
I have a Canon Powershot A70 which I purchased slightly more than a year ago and yesterday, a strange problem cropped up. The image on the LCD preview screen started getting very fuzzy and when I took pictures, it was just a collage of colours. I suspect this is a problem with the image sensor within the camera itself and so, sought out help from an online camera forum – Clubsnap. Within a matter of days, numerous A70 owners posted in the forum relating similar problems with the image sensor and most of them have given up on repairing the sensor as it’s beyond their warranty period. I have a friend who purchased the camera at the same time as I did, and his image sensor just spoilt one month ago.
With all due respect, I believe there is a serious problem here when a group of consumers all report a similar fault with the product, particularly when the warranty period is over, as repair costs will be borne by us. I hope to get a favourable reply from you soon with regards to this image sensor issue and hopefully, we, as the consumers, can be appeased and retain our trust in Canon digital camera products. Numerous Canon A70 owners are having malfunctioning cameras sitting as white elephants at home and I’ve not even gathered feedback from non-Clubsnap users as yet. What’s the point of buying a camera which spoils just a few months after its warranty period? It’s indeed frustrating for all of us and I hope Canon Singapore does an thorough investigation to the manufacturing process of this particular batch of Canon A70s.
