$140++ for repairing CCD, but offer free exchange program A95 when A70 spoiled again in 3mths time.
A510 are also not bad... Lighter and 4x optical zoom.

Sounds good deal with the free exchange program. But what if the A70 spoil in the 5th months ? The exchange program still valid huh ?

Repairing/recalibration A70 over the course of 2 yrs cost me about $200++. Lucky the exchange program fall within the period between mid Apr to mid Jul.
I suspect CCD replacement early this yr had a flaw issue, I guess they had fixed the flaw already. Hence exchange program finished. May try repair first or topup for A510.

my a60 also have these problems..
its dead after a year...
no trust in canon anymore..

just got this problem, and was directed to this thread

looks like we have a huge number of victims of this "value engineering" [products designed to spoil after 1 year]

seems like the exchange programme has ended, but will still try to go down to Canon service centre tomorrow to see what they are offering as settlement

if not, will file a complaint through CASE [but need more complaints for a stronger case]

The main crux here is not whether there is any exchange program.
Canon should be offering the repair for free since this is a production defect that affects A70.
If it is a typical wear and tear problem, I can accept it.
But for a production defect, they must take the responsibilty of fixing it for free.

Who would want to buy a camera that will FOR CERTAIN OR HIGH PROBABILITY of failing after one year of usage?

rgds..
