I have a A60 with the battery pack and black screen errors. Has anyone exchanged a A60 before? Seems that my camera faults match those of the A70 you all talking about here.

Really disappointed with Canon for producing such low-quality camera. Spoilt after 2 years. I will probably never buy a Canon camera in the future.
Almost those Canon made in malaysia have this problem, seem someone exchanged A60 with top up. Try asking for A510 since A95 no more stock now.

Just sent in my A70 with similar problems today. The woman there told me that the repair will cost abt $140. Still thought i can upgrade to A95 with same price.

Think if spend $140 for the repair with only 3 mths warranty a bit not worth. Think i'll take back the camera and let it be white elephant.

Going to jump boat and go for other brands already. No more confidence with Canon stuff liao.

Hmm ..

My A70 also had the same problem . After sending it back to canon , they claimed it's the battery compartment problem and they fixed it foc (coz < 1 year)

Sigh .. don't think they are telling the truth about the fault here

my a70 was pronounced dead today....
missed the exchange programme

OK, I've taken the initiative to write an e-mail to Canon Singapore with regards to this issue and I sincerely hope they give me a satisfactory answer. Clubsnap is a breeding ground for photographers and such inherent defects in cameras will certainly dissuade consumers from investing their money in these equipment. I'll understand if it's just 1 or 2 people wth problems, but from what I've seen so far, more than 5 or 6 of us (out of those few who actually OWN this camera and bothered to reply) have encountered this problem with the Canon Powershot A70. As follows is the e-mail to Canon HQ.

===

To Whom It May Concern:

I have a Canon Powershot A70 which I purchased slightly more than a year ago and yesterday, a strange problem cropped up. The image on the LCD preview screen started getting very fuzzy and when I took pictures, it was just a collage of colours. I suspect this is a problem with the image sensor within the camera itself and so, sought out help from an online camera forum – Clubsnap. Within a matter of days, numerous A70 owners posted in the forum relating similar problems with the image sensor and most of them have given up on repairing the sensor as it’s beyond their warranty period. I have a friend who purchased the camera at the same time as I did, and his image sensor just spoilt one month ago.

With all due respect, I believe there is a serious problem here when a group of consumers all report a similar fault with the product, particularly when the warranty period is over, as repair costs will be borne by us. I hope to get a favourable reply from you soon with regards to this image sensor issue and hopefully, we, as the consumers, can be appeased and retain our trust in Canon digital camera products. Numerous Canon A70 owners are having malfunctioning cameras sitting as white elephants at home and I’ve not even gathered feedback from non-Clubsnap users as yet. What’s the point of buying a camera which spoils just a few months after its warranty period? It’s indeed frustrating for all of us and I hope Canon Singapore does an thorough investigation to the manufacturing process of this particular batch of Canon A70s.

agnoxis,
What reply did they give u ? They got call u to explain or reply back to you by email ? Think i'll be the next time email them liao

Hey yeah.. any response?
I'm thinking of writing to them as well..

Did you get to upgrade to A95?

I think the affected parties can at least try writing an official letter to Canon Singapore, refer them to this thread, and how the issue has seriously damaged customers' confidence. Not much harm trying right?

Today just received a call from them saying that my A70 image sensor got problem and will cost $140 to repair. So i told them i'll just take back the camera. Just sent a email to Canon. Now see wat's their reply. Others pay $140 get a new A95, i pay $140 get back my repaired A70. Which one u prefer ?

After read this thread... Went to check my A70.. and face same problem now...
Goin to get a reasonable answer for this....
Who goin to buy Canon's camera anymore if all the camera will spoilt after 1 year and let them earn the servicing charge~~~!!!!

maybe can start a list of peoples affected and see how canon are going to response.

cause understand that alot of people affected.

I think we should gather all the affected customers who bought this batch of A70 and send the list to Canon. See how canon goin to respond...

Affected customer:
1.Octopuz
2.

or we setup a online petition???

Hi guys..
I am new to this forum. Like other A70 users, i experience the same sensor problem. Now, it gives me a dark screen whenever i switch it to shooting mode. Bought my set on the mid of 2003. I went to Canon Serv Centre just now. It will cost me $135 ($75 for sensor and $60 for labour charge) to fix it  which i think is a bit expensive!! They never mention about the exchange prrogram to me. I hope that u guys can include me in the list and try my luck to see if canon is going to give us positive response on this...

Thanks..

Went down to service centre today... And the manager gave me a very firm 'NO exchange program anymore'.....

What should i do?? :dunno:

Pay $140 for the image sensor with 3mths warranty or $300+ A510 for 1 year warranty?? Assume that the sensor spoilt after 3mths for a year, we need to pay $140x4=$560 a year!!!!!!!!!!!

Had the same reply from Canon when my A70's ccd died on me. I choose to "tradein" for an S2 for $768. Was thinking of getting an S2 anyway.

Also got a big NO from the service person there. Was offered either to repair and pay $140 or trade in for a A95 for $525 or IXUS 50 for $566.

Actually wanted to trade in for the A95 one, but then wat the #@!$$#, others paying $140 also got the A95 but now i need to pay $525. Decided to let my A70 be white elephant and blacklist Canon products !

For your info, my A70 image sensor repair but within 3mths spoil again. Hence I will take the A510 with 1 yr wty. Quite similar to A70 but flashing a bit slow. Can try to bargain to $200.
