Thanks for the info albertri. I'll get myself along to MS later in the week.

Hmmm, A33 or A55 . . . . . .? Dunno.

I love the idea of GPS - would be great for my road trips. Thinking Thinking . . . .

Sorry, checking GPS do we need to paid any data fee to be connect....:dunno:

Its only a receiver to record the coordinates. Its not like GPS for cars or phones where u need to subscribe to download maps.

Its free!!!

Pay how? There's no SIM card or anything. Do you think the camera can magically find out what your credit card number is?

drop by MS color today to check out the A55 price and offers... I dunno what happen I end up bring home A33

Welcome to the Alpha Family bro ! ...you got a good deal, the only thing I would add would be a 18-55mm SAM kit lens from the BnS section for shooting videos !
Should be able to get one for $60 - $80 ...and remember to get one with SAM ! :bsmilie:

poisonous... shheeezzzz..
You're the bro from DaddyHobby ?

Welcome and no need to think so much ! ...just plunge into the NEX revolution DSLT cameras !

looks like EVF eats more power than the main LCD... Coming from DSLR I am used to looking at OVF... EVF for A33/A55 hehehe.

I hope sony would came up with a formware update that you could trun both off (LCD and EVF) what I've done is set my display to auto off after 20secs to save battery and to aviod overheating (I dunno if this helps)

Thanks bro.... only have 50mm SAM len yeah would invest on 18-55 SAM lens :). For now I am still in the testing phase... I am still holding on my Old Olympus E-620 working on A33 there's some difference in terms of buttons, menu, controls I find A33 less settings/config while E-620 there's a lot of settings....

I find there's some good and bad in both systems. Here's my current feel and feedback on A33 compare with my E-620 + 14-54mm HG lens

A33
More vivid colors than Oly
Faster AF
HD Video
Pano Sweep + 3D
Auto HDR
Auto-ISO (stitching to lessen noise)
HD Video - but I do seldom use this but its geat to have for those candid moments
Burst mode is to die for love the burst mode 7fps/10fps for A55.

:thumbsd:
also have AF problem at low light and bright like blue sky but this could be due to the lens
Photo tends to a bit soft (this is lens again)
lack of fine tuning/setting
less button for those quick setting... e.g. AWB you'll need to use the 4-way button to adjust temp not like normal DSLR you can use the scroll wheel make is much faster.
Can't turn off both EVF and LCD (walk around shorten the LCD uptime to 20sec etc)

Current lens 18-250 and 50 f1.8

Oh just to add 18-250 is a very good all around travel lens I just notice some vignetting when you have a thick filter such as CPL at wide angle. Also barrelling is a bit obvious. But these could be corrected during PP.

50 f1.8 so far ok find the DOF a bit thin at 1.8 must step it down a bit maybe 2 ro 2.8?

hi ghostfit.. yes i am.. haha

looking for upgrade from my canon S5 IS

ive been camping at the pentax discussion thread for more than 1/2 yr now.. interested in K-x and now waiting for K-r review..
never visit sony discussion thread till now becoz of A33/A55.. haha
the fast focusing just blow my mind away..

and now start to read all the sony dslr related stuff.. still do searching whats the heck is SSM, SAM, SAL, DT and etc ;p

inquiry.. err if the motor is build-in to the body (in this case A55), why some of the lenses come with motor?
diff lenses for diff body or motor build-in body is not good enough?

thx in advance

Having SAM/SSM in lens makes the focusing faster and quieter, in fact, SSM is silent, just like Canon's USM.

in-body AF motor is more to make it compatible with older Sony/Minolta AF lenses.

Soon, all lenses will have in-lens AF motor.

Having the motor in-body allows Sony to retain compatibility with all the old Minolta AF lenses, and also allows them to manufacture much cheaper lenses. The next "step up" is SAM, and SSM is for the top-grade lenses.

AF speed depends on the lens design. The CZ 24-70 SSM is incredibly fast and silent, but some screw-driven lenses are also incredibly fast at focusing (though not silent).

You are most welcome, ....It's a good lens, but if you don't need video, the 18-250mm has already covered the range.

You need to play around with it awhile, the scroll wheel (at the index finger) can be used to select the next menu/setting after the initial selection of the direction/individual buttons.

I found the 50f1.8 pretty good from wide open to f22 and yes, depending on how far away you are from the subject, the dof can be abit thin at f1.8.
I'll normally only use f1.8 for portraiture headshots, half-body to full body is usually better with f2.8 onwards.

Can't wait for the DAT 35mm f1.8 SAM to be available !!!

Yeah I am also waiting for it I'll be checking MS Color see how much cheaper they could sell it... I think 35mm is a very good prime.

Any recommendation for a wide-tele, fast and affordable lens? maybe f2.8 or something?

Lol ! ...small world, but I'm not surprise as majority of the bros in DH are also camera buffs ! :bsmilie:

I got a few colleagues here who are looking to upgrade from their PnS cameras and kinda looking at me for suggestions  ...Since April of this year, we have gone from the Canon 550d to Sony Nex5 to the Pentax Kx and finally back to Sony - A33/A55 SLT.
The Kx is really a very good bang for the buck Dslr but when they went and held/feel the A33/A55, they kinda made up their minds even though its a few hundred more.

I guess the Alpha mounts 'Old birds' :bsmilie: has already answered your questions on why some lens come with motor and some do not, you'll find that the Sony family is as close kinted as the Pentax family

Bro, ....Fast lens is never affordable ! :bsmilie: ...but then, it depends on what your idea of 'Affordable' is ! ...another thing to remember is "Fast usually means Heavy" ! :bsmilie:

...Me ? ...I'm just waiting for the Sony mount version of this ...or you can get the Sony 70-300G lens NOW for about double the price.

I would say dangerously a good deal, be careful if you wish to buy from such shops.

I'm not rich bro so my affordable really means affordable. Hehe I was initially wanted to have UWA, short tele and a telezoom lens. The 18-250 I find it good but you know can't expect it'll perform very well at all focal lengths.... this lens I would say jack of all traits....

But I find Sony G lenses are a bit ehem.... so was looking for another alternatives

For AWB & ISO adjustment, you can just press the button assigned to it and then use the scroll wheel to change it. Similarly for other adjustment shown with "FN" buttons, just highlight the item you want to change and use scroll wheel to make changes to it.

If you using EVF often and have the LV screen turn backward towards the camera (LV will always be off in this way), when you move away from the EVF, it will turn off immediately.
