Actually it's never cheaper to buy in Japan, especially at current FX rate.

I'll be dead honest with you but don't kill me for it.
1) Noise, I don't own a flash and I do not see the need to own 1 YET. When I'm shooting for friends indoor, ramping up to iso800 is waaayy too noisy for me
2) I think my A200 is too old
3) I intend to do some volunteer photography and I think an entry level wouldn't do too good for my image.
4) I like the A550 flip, but then I feel it's underpar from a700?

if your concern is Noise.. i guess A5xx is best for you . as for me , i ll go fr A5xx now and resell it to get A750 when it launches if i m rich ..
suggestion only .. u really need flash for indoor and A5xx not really entry lvl . u can do mostly all for everyday photography. only no MLU, program shift and dof preview

If noise is the issue, I would say the A500/A550 would be ideal for now. But I would suggest that you hold your horses first to see what the A700 replacement can do. I am forecasting that it will be able to go up to ISO 12800 or higher and have equal or better high ISO performance than the A500/A550. So better wait and see first before deciding.

I am a newbie when comes to camera. Just when I am planning to get the Nikon d5000 / Canon 550D. The shop recommend me Alpha A500. Looking at the features, I was so comtemplated to get it. But I though I better go back home and do my research before committing it.
Is there any ex Canon / Nikon user now using a Alpha here or maybe the Alpha gurus here can share your views which model should I go for it

1299-1165, for $134 more you can get away with an extra battery and a vertical grip plus other perks. Sounds nice to me, but the last time I checked Sony prices was many months ago when I was buying my own a550.
