A500/550 Users .... Come in!!!

After accesssing my SD card via Macbook, my Sony A500 could not access the card and kept prompting the error "no card" even after reformatting the card.

I was able to access the same SD card via my Windows based PC and my Samsung NV9. Have formatted it via NV9 and Windows-based PC, but "no card" error on Sony A500 still persists.

What could be wrong? Anyone knows how to rectify this error?

did you try another card? If the problem persist on other cards then it would likely be the camera's fault.

Anyone selling their a550 soon, maybe around late august? Do tell me!

I've tried other cards and it works fine...so I presume that Mac has knocked out the card partially...

i dont know about memory cards, but my iMac did ruin a portable hard disk awhile ago. ended up i had to reformat the drive and never plug it into the mac again.

If your other cards work fine, then it's not a camera fault. I guess the card is faulty then or it could be that your Macbook is causing the problem.

I guess so...so lesson learnt: don't access camera memory cards directly via Macbook next time.

Hmm... I'm using a MBP and I'm accessing it via a card reader... So far so good... no such problem as error reading.

I guess it is fine so long you eject the card before you remove it? :)

Hi Guys,

New Alpha A550 newbie here.;)

I am looking to buy a lens that can zoom further then my kit lens and i have narrowed down to SAL18250 and SAL18200. Is this 2 lens good? Pictures i will be taking are usually my kids..

Also pls enlighten me what is the difference between SAL18200 and Tamron AF18-200mm? I noticed 2nd hand Tamron lens are quite affordable from B&S..But my concern is the quality of the pic?

For prime lens, target is SAL50F18 @$219. Bokeh on the pic displayed at Sony website looks impressive. Any feedback on this lens pls?

Appreciate all advice. :)

Thx!!

Welcome to the Alpha family.

Between the 18-200 and 18-250, go for the 18-250mm which has better image quality. Tamron and SAL 18-200mm have not much difference actually.

For the 50mm f1.8, it's a pretty good lens. Sharp and at constant f1.8.

Thanks!

:D

How is the manual focus check using the liveview, does it work? Compare to a manual focusing screen, which is more accurate? Thanks.

it works very well yes. using the live view can help alot in macro shooting. cos its clearer and bigger. sometimes brighter too.

However do note that the build of this lens do feel abit filmsy, suggest you go sony style shop and try it, they are available for testing.

The manual focus live view is another great plus for A550, it helps u to see very very clearly at night with MF, esp when you do not like the flash-assist focus to flash your subjects at night, and your flash does not offer the AF assist lamp (HLV 20am) or inbuilt flash.

A390L & A550L same pricing? WTH??
