why " DT lenses are not recommended for use with the DSLR-A900 "?
first thing, do u know the difference between a FF and a APS-C? and a DT lens compared to a FF lens?

Maybe what you have are all FF lenses so probably difficult to see the differences.

Try comparing the rear lens elements of your lenses with a DT ones and you will see the difference.

DT ones have smaller rear lens elements which will cause vignetting on a large FF Sensor as it cannot cover the whole of the area.

A900 is a Full Frame cam (ie the sensor size is larger than those from the A100-A700s) so when you mount a DT (digital APS-C) lens on the A900 only the centre of the sensor is used so as to recognise the lens since it's for a smaller sensor. Of course the quality of the sensor will not be unleashed fully then.

Hope I got the facts right.

Hi, very interesting with all the news toys appearing soon , but the soft ware for the noise is nothing heard, i tot there should have some news over the noise software, since the last launch of the A900 cam about half year already. I believe the New FF camera will not be launch till next years. May be wait for the A 800 with 18 MP video lol:confused:

Stuff like that won't be in a press release. 90% of users out there don't really know about or care about ISO noise so long as the camera takes the picture. As far as they're concerned, it's still better then their cellphone cam.

A800 is most likely a rumour never to appear as Sony will stick to the current series. Perhaps a 500 series in between to follow the Minolta legacy but that is about it I assume.

Firmware and performance is indeed something still to come. Hence for me earlier the reason to wonder whether a new A380 can be on the par with a A700. As far as my thinking goes, not unlikely.

But I think if A380 really managed to perform on par or even outdo a A700, they still represent for different market, which still calls for A500/A7xx/A800 to be available for upgraders.

Just like D5000 and D90, with similar IQ performance, but difference in features and handling...

Spot on Ouverture! Performance in terms of quality is different from funtionalities, right? In terms of high ISO settings, frame burst and so on, total different discussion. Demand for high end will always remain but it does not mean that low end automatically performs so much less in terms of quality output.

Time will tell... There maybe a 400 series also. If we follow the naming scheme of Sony, then 400/500/800 are missing in the list.

I do hope there would be a firmware update for a200/a300/a350 camera. However, it is unlike the same firmware as the new cameras.

It also unlike for a 300 series to be on par of a 700 series camera, no company would make it such way to undermine the higher end product.

The naming scheme is a bit weird compared to previous Minolta, Ie. it is not followed exactly. Sony apparently has mp3 gear called 800 series so not really likely to be used for a DSLR to come soon. Bridging the gap between 300 and 700 series would suggest a 500 in between. But agree, it is guessing of corse although I try to do so on what makes sense.

I would see no reason why the 300 can not be on the par with the current 700. The new 380 is getting close to the current pricing of a 700. So, automatically people ignore the new camera and get the 700 instead? I guess there is a bit more to it. Technology wise however the new 380 might have catched up with the 700 quality performance, there is a two year gap in between, although it is obvious that it depends on firmware release.

Since the new models work with different technology while looking at the battery and memory, it would not surprise me if the firmware is indeed different.

Well, let's wait for more info to come. Functional wise obviously an entire different story.

Oh? I have not seen the price yet.

Entry level dSLR price at level of a700? That is overpriced, IMO.

In us sonystyle website, it's 999 for a700 body, while 899 for a380+sal1855.;)

Aiya... That is packaging, removing the kit-lens, actual price for a380 alone would be cheaper.

Is unlikely for users of A700 to use the new kit lens. I always thought a700 would be pair up with CZ lenses. That won't be cheap.

By the way, where did you get this price?

It's the Sony US price.

Hi brothers there, still waiting for new cams to launch? I think a A 700 is really a very good bargain now,do not miss the chance to grab one before out of stock. It is in par with D300 :bsmilie:

I'm wondering if the A700's replacement will be priced similar.
Few things looking forward to :

AF micro adjustment
better AWB
User interchangeable screens like the A900 (dreaming):bsmilie:
Bring back the 2nd dial
Even better DR? (The current A700 is definately good but no harm waiting few months for something even better:sticktong)

What I worry more looking at the way the new cams are, is that the replacement model
is going to have less dedicated controls but more that's dumped into the menu / worse, removed.
