every equipment is outdated once they are released. so just buy what u need and use it happily!

Aiya... That is packaging, removing the kit-lens, actual price for a380 alone would be cheaper.

Is unlikely for users of A700 to use the new kit lens. I always thought a700 would be pair up with CZ lenses. That won't be cheap.

By the way, where did you get this price?

I am comparing specifically against the Malaysia street price for the A700, being currently RM 3200 only. So go figure .. ;-)

the new series dun support wired cable remote... discontinued series hv rite?

cant believe they are not getting one to replace the A700 and nothing with HD video recording!

1. This is for the entry-level market. The A700 replacement will come soon enough. After all, you don't see a D300 replacement from Nikon yet, right?

2. HD video recording? UGH. What a disgustingly pointless feature on a DSLR. Rolling shutter effects leaging to wobbly lines, sloooooooow autofocus, poor ergonomics.

it can still produce great results if one knows how to work round the problems. it is nevertheless a good-to-have feature.

I'd rather not have it and have a cheaper cam.

No matter what, it will still be a feature that people will use it to compare against the competition......it's human nature...no choice....either follow or get left behind...

Interestingly...

I realize that people are more intrigued and pays more attention on my video slide shows that incorporate effects such as ken-burn effect much more than a recorded HD video stream of events......

I hope slr cameras dont end up like my good old video cassette player....whoose got tonnes of function but realistically only the Play,Forward,Stop,Pause buttons get to be exercise.

Real photographers will think the same way as you mentioned, but the IT revolutiion has make the modern people striving for specs rather than functionality...

Well, I've learnt that I won't pay more for specs that I won't need. If the extras are incorporated at no extra cost, fine. If I need to pay more for them, please leave them out.

HD Recording.. hmm, how many Gig of CF storage do we need to do that?

Hd video recording, live view, cosmetic outlook...for me, they r not important, I just like simple, black dslr, which produce good quality pics. :)

The Sony A700 is what it does for stills is like what the Sony EX1 does for Video... they are machines that can do great work in their realm. I personally would like to have a more functional camera that has all the functions for the job realm that it's designed to do. Bells and whistles are good, but they cost money to put in, and for those who calculate their profit margins, that is a factor - overall equipment cost.

Video is a perk to have on entry level cameras, but it's just for fun and convenience. Those who want to do serious work in video - the prospect of video recording on your trips from the same camera is convenient, but with the current developments, it's not too usable and responsive enough for critical video work - stuff I'd buy a separate machine for. :)

Pentax have announced a superb camera K7
Sony still hasn't comeout a A700 replacement. Are SONY designers sleeping?
