wah... the way its going, i hope Sony doesn't come up with "just" a cosmetic makeover on the A700 replacement. I'm planning on an upgrade to the A700 replacement model.

From a a350 user, I don't mind just a cosmetic makeover, as long as it make a700 cheaper! ;)

Pff .. same here as I am still a Minolta user. Some more the speculation continues as Sony now clearly diffentiates between entry level and (semi)pro, having rumours of 'an in between model' such as a 500 series. But that is all in the guessing game obviously.

As mentioned in this thread there is genuinely nothing wrong with the current A700 but I guess we always want more somehow. And is it worth the waiting for? So hard to guess but what we do know is that the price/performance of the A700 currently is very, very interesting indeed. So perhaps, just get it while you can ??

time to change my vintage minolta 5d... to a canon 500d that is hehehe

If the cosmetic makeover is going to be like the Dynax 7 / 7D, I'll grab 1!

Hi, anyone considering change the dt18-70 into dt18-55?

Imaging resource has previewed these 3 cameras.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA380/AA380A.HTM

Notable improvements:
1) Smaller and lighter (~100g)
2) All 9 auto focus points now easier to see through the optical viewfinder, with boxes around each point, and visible orange confirmation light
3) Supports SD/SDHC and MS cards
4) New GUI
5) Improved DRO effectiveness (stronger more visible effect), and White Balance from the Jpeg Engine (hopefully can improve IQ)
6) Self Timer will can be engaged to take 3-5 shots in rapid fire modes (3-5 images @ 2.5 fps) - This is something very unique!!!
7) In-built flash now raises higher
8) Definitely looks SEXY and is claded with "leather" throughout in the front

Downsides:
1) Battery has lesser capacity (~500shots OVF as compared to previous 730shots)
2) Smaller grip might be issue if camera is attached with a heavy lens and causes imbalance handling
3) Sliding memory slot compartment door might be loose after long usage.

Personally, I think the only good thing about the new cameras is the sliding door to access the ports and memory card slot. -_-"

Interesting that SONY is releasing more and more SSM (or so call SAM) lenses... should see more of that on the large aperture lenses...
