A weird statement from people about some Sony camera

hmm... why are you questioning the credibility of that statement ? its just a matter of personal opinion. I personally have met a few DSLR users who claims that you need to DSLR in order to be "serious" in photography. which is a joke. :bsmilie:

Actually, I'm sick and tired of those "hey, my cam is better than yours" attitute. People nowadays are too engross with their equipment and taking less photos to improve their skills.

Eh, because if you read it carefully,
"Dun be dishearted by ppl's comments on ur camera. Those ppl who make such comments probably isn't such a great photographer"
it would mean that he isn't such a great photographer since he made such comments on people who made such comments! Though in different situations, but same basis! Eh but no offence to any of you here.. Just thought it'd be interesting.. hur hur :blah:

Eh but on a more serious note, using a DSLR may or may not get better pictures then a Prosumer digital, but it sure as hell makes you look more pro. Though with the exception of the sony 707, 717 and 828 cameras. They make you look just as pro.. :bsmilie:

Sorry about my way of phrasing the statement that caused the confusion. My England not too powderful lah.

But my main point to bring across is that as long as u like ur camera and it suits ur purpose. Other's people comments on it doesn't really matter.

The photograph makes the photographer. Not the camera. When a photographer submits a photo for a competition, it is never judged by the camera. A good photo will win a competition even if it is not taken with the best camera.

Those are some good pictures taken with a Fujifilm Instant Camera. The picture frame itself even got Disney's Princess designs (hmm ... maybe this is more of a Mickey Mouse camera ;p) But the results are very good. It is not a DSLR. It is not even a film camera.

That's right! Someone really mistook the F828 for a DSLR, and he was totally taken aback when I told him that it is not. And he still couldn't believe it!! :bsmilie:

heya. I have seen converts from 717 to D70, and those who made their way to an 828. I still have a 707 and NOT selling it (coz of low 2nd hand value). In my opinion, I find this camera worth it, even if it has the "red" problem (which i myself can't see very much). Even if it's a "toy", its still a very good "toy" to let your friends / family use.

Hope to get my hands on a 2nd hand 828 soon .....so those of you stupid enough to be put off by these mickey-mouse(tell the loser to go fly a MM balloon), dslr-is-better or purple fringing comments......please PM me how much u want to sell your 828.

I handled one (828) for 3 or 4 days a couple of months back in Malaysia and I liked it very much. Its heft felt good in my hands and no problems with my images at all....(I normally dial down EV by 1/3 stop on all DCs)

Image quality is good (but then I shot at the lower ISO range) and the purple devil was hard to spot at 100% levels (I guess only the gifted like the ARs have this gift)

There are simple little tricks to get great images and colors from just about any DC or film based camera without resorting to software and PS. Or....taken from another point of view, that just means that you have to just pay more attention to creating a great image....and isnt that better?

Currently I'm using a Canon D1s full frame on loan from a client for the last 3 1/2 weeks already (my regular DC is an Oly 5060). When I took over the camera, I went through the CF card inside and found some images that I'd thought belonged to a trash bin....so like the brother above says, photographer is more important than the camera. If u really cannot get rid of that complex there's a few things u can do.....print out a handly little portfolio booklet to show people what you're capable of.....or sell your 828 to me :bsmilie: (I have no qualms about buying a 2nd hand one in great condition if the price is right)

If these guys are slinging a dSLR... YOUR comment to them should be "...so I guess your images must be VERY good then.....can I see them?". Why should the pressure be on u? Shouldnt it be on 'them??? heh heh heh :bsmilie:

why am I in a Sony thread? Well, I'd just returned from Jakarta over the weekend and brought along my little pea-shooter (Oly 5060) while my Indonesian counterparts brought along the heavy artillery....and received a couple of friendly cocky sniffs too ("....are u serious?...you're shooting with THAT THING?").

Interesting how some people relate size of camera to quality of images. Having sampled both the Pro1 and the 828's lowest-ISO images, it is quite odd that the 828's images look grainier. Perhaps Sony hasn't got a handle on that image processing chip yet.

It definitely is a concession to Sony's sensor superiority (either by way of pure pixel count or by quality, or both) that Canon uses the Sony sensor in the Pro1.

I own an SLR, but still carry around a pocket camera for times when I can't pull out the SLR fast enough, or when it is indiscreet to. Though there are situations where a large camera excel, smaller cameras shouldn't be written off wholesale either.

It's interesting to observe the existence of a growing number of DSLR snobs with that kind of views. Personally, I'm a great fan of nikon. I've once own an F80 and a Coolpix 4300 and the equipment and quality of pictures are simply great. Then later on, due to budget concerns and my growing interest in digital photography, I switched to the Sony F828. Its a great camera that takes great pictures too.
Perhaps the problem with these DSLR snobs is that they tend to attribute too much credit to the equipment rather than creativity of the individual. People with prosumer cameras can often take creative shots as well. So is it the man or the machine that makes the difference? Answer is quite obvious.
And the way I look at it is that the F828 allows me the flexibility to practice my hobby and to spiral to a higher level of skill and creativity. Maybe someday I will have the luxury of owning a DSLR with a couple of expensive lenses.

Just to share...I've gone on on photoshoot with a fellow CS member who uses a D100. At the end of the session, he was pleasantly impressed by what the F828 could do.

Disney colours are a thing of the past with the new F828. The new Sony Real Mode is really good.

I am sorry, but I think your teacher is probably a "gear" person rather than a serious photographer to make that type of comment. ;p IMHO, the DSC-F series produces the best photo quality in the prosumer digital cameras in the market (better than C4NON's). I have been using the F707 for more than 2 years now, the thought of changing cameras has never crossed my mind :think:

I have to agree with you. I am using the 717 and am perfectly happy with it. The fast AF, sharp lens, nice colour reproduction etc etc. :thumbsup:

I still can't believe what I am hearing when people start dismissing Sony as a camera maker just based on the fact that they were not film camera makers to start off with.

People like to protect what they have or already own.
And when something new emerges, the very initial repsonse is always to dismiss the newcomer as inferior and less respectable in comparison to what they are most familiar with. The tenacity to exercise emotion over logic is obvious.
