A weird statement from people about some Sony camera

haa.. Guess the main reason why canon dslrs won't have a swivel LCD because it might not be possible. Well currently. *We must keep in mind that the only purpose a swivel LCD should serve is to be able to "see" at difficult angles* So with that in mind, to enable "live feed" to the LCD, canon would have to lock their mirrors to allow constant image feed to the sensor. From this point, when you click the shutter, there'd probably be a "lag time" from shutter button release to shutter open. If you don't understand what i am saying, you probably need to understand how dSLRs work.. But then again, it's just my theory :D

and one of my "friend" told me not to buy a toy but i told him at least my "toy" has a metal-body unlike his plastic one :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

*sigh* ppl around asked me why I bought F717 when I could buy dSLR cameras... Kinda stressed and dunno what to answer.

They said F717 is a pocket camera. I somehow agree

those ppl who says u shud buy DSLRs were probably themselves owning PowerShots, Camedias and Sonys up till the later part of 2003. The 300D suddenly changed their perception of digital photography as they find themselves able to afford the lowest-priced DSLR... All of a sudden, anything other than DSLR are lousy  .
There is really no stress about it.. DSLR means u need more bucks for the bang while that 717 of yours has more bang for the bucks.. :D The F717 is still a very highly regarded camera. There is absolutely no confusion the way i see it. ;)

Agree with Triton's comments. But I guess we're fighting a losing battle trying to convince non-Sony users how good the F717/828 are.

Well, they're the ones losing out, so who cares!

I face the same problem with my mobile phone as well. Everyone complains about Sony Ericsson's lousy interface, but they're missing all the features other phones can't even get close. I've managed to convert a lot of my colleagues to buy T610, and they're happy with the change.

The best I've heard was someone asking me when I will be upgrading to 828 cos its 8 megapixel and my D100 only 6 megapixel, 1 megapixel more than his G5.

Yup, and then there's the group who think they're part of a secret club... I know a 300D owner, it's her first SLR *and* first digital camera of any sort. When she saw me snapping away with my 828, she smirked and told me about her recent 300D purchase, then she started asking questions like, "How do you get it to do that Infra Red thing?", "You can view the image live on the LCD when you're framing up for the shot?" She also told me she didn't have plans (or the money) to buy more lenses. sigh. If I had the cash, I'd buy a DSLR and a whole bunch of lenses, but the cost...

I've nothing against Canon, or DSLRs, I'd love to own one (or five :D) one day, it's just that you end up bumping into DSLR snobs so often, it gets to you.

Yeah right... Like ppl always think that Nokia is the most user-friendly phones around... Let me correct that - Nokia *used* to have the most user-friendly phones. Many other manufacturers have already caught up in this area. For example Motorola.. they used to have the *most* horrendous interface and u probably need to be a rocket scientist to use it effectively. How fast things have changed, at least they are more useable now.
Nokia has taken their success for granted and are now producing feature-less phones with dated designs at a not so affordable price.. Just look at the competition - Sony Ericsson is cheap and comes with all the bells and whistles e.g. email clients, cam, Tri_band, Bluetooth etc... and Samsung with those georgeous TFT-LCD that are ultra sharp and bright that comes standard with 2 packs of LiOn batts and ear piece!!!!! mana lu cari??!!

I guess we are on the same wavelength.. If i have the money I would have bought a *real* DSLR (and not that 300D) and I would have bought myself the best lens BUT unfortunately i am not that rich and so i will have to settle for an 828. Come to think of it, i doubt i would be bringing the DSLR on outings as i probably need a neck and shoulder massage after that :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

I dun think the 717 is a pocket camera firstly becoz I do not have any shirt / pants pocket that can fit the size of the 717 :bsmilie: Same goes to my 828. People who make these kind of comment probably never know what is a prosumer digicam is.

hey dude, remember we did the zoo model shoot ? only both of us we're using Sony (u 717 and me 828) and we were surrounded by 20+ DSLR snappers. I believe we're able to get some good shots despite our gears (including the F32X flash) is 1/2 the weight lighter of those guys around us.

At the end of the day, it is how you master the equipment who have, be proud of it and with this confidence you can take great pics no matter what your camera is.

At the same event, one 300D user commented to me that the 828 display and reviewing of pictures is a lot faster compared to his 300D.

I had a Sony F717 before. It is a good digicam with a solid metallic body, a very useful zoom ring (rather than pressing 2 buttons to zoom in and out) and a hologram focusing which allows u to focus better in dim lit areas. Its grip is also not bad though I feel that Nikon CP5700's grip is slightly better. It is also one of the few digicams that doesn't required any adapter to fit on filters or telephoto/wide angle convertors. Its battery life is also quite long, maybe second to Canon BP-511 battery. I won't consider F717 as a toy compared to other digicams (Plastic body, 2 buttons to zoom in and out, bad focusing in dim lit areas) ;p I haven't got a chance to try a F828, so don't know how good it is compared to F717 :D

yes, honestly to say sony 717 is a good camera, however the 828 is terrible due the pf

Dun be dishearted by ppl's comments on ur camera. Those ppl who make such comments probably isn't such a great photographer. Good photographers can make great shots out of lousy cameras and lousy photos can be shot by great camera. Very much it depends on the user of the camera. I know that some professional photographer carry an compact camera (maybe film or digicam) beside their SLR (or dSLR) to capture those candid moments that they will take too long to react with their SLR (dSLR).

Believe in urself and ur camera will shine.

Darkspade

P.S. I am not a Sony digicam owner. I used a Nikon 5700. But I believe that Sony is one of the forerunner in terms of digicam.

P.P.S About that comment that Sony F717 is a pocket camera. I believe that some ladies may think that u r happy to see her cos of the bulge in ur pocket ;p :embrass:

you can control pf somewhat, the noise is the killer, but i have gotten some good iso400 shots, had to use a moire pattern remove in PSP8 to clean it up. what i really -hate- about the 828 is:
a) the EVF/LCD switch, it's quite literally nowhere! it's useless when you want to switch to EVF in a hurry and useless when you want to switch to the LCD in a hurry, it *always* needs you to move your hand about. :mad2:

b) the digital zoom button, what idiot puts a button in a place that requires you to move the camera or your head to see where you have to *move* your thumb (along the whole height of the camera) to? great industrial design sony. just great. :nono:

in fact they should've put all those buttons along the bottom of the lcd somewhere else, they might as well have stuck them on the side of the sony HQ building in japan. geez.

Hmm.. With comments like that.. It's hard to imagine the credibility :D

hmm... why are you questioning the credibility of that statement ? its just a matter of personal opinion. I personally have met a few DSLR users who claims that you need to DSLR in order to be "serious" in photography. which is a joke. :bsmilie:

Actually, I'm sick and tired of those "hey, my cam is better than yours" attitute. People nowadays are too engross with their equipment and taking less photos to improve their skills.

If you are really bothered by the noise then go get Noise Ninja. It's a very good software that is very useful for anyone into digital imaging as it can be used for just about any digital imaging equipment (i.e. scanners, digicam, film scanner) Even if your camera is not supported u can easily create custom noise profiles using their calibration chart. Worth every single cent i paid for it

Yes Sony shud have place the EVF/LCD switch in a better location. I would suggest somewhere near the thumbwheel. Of course it would be best if they incorporate automatic switching like the DiMage A-1.
I don't use digital zoom (who needs it when u have 8MP at your disposal!! :) ) but the switch does get in the way and i sometimes accidentally turned it on.

yeah, i fully agree. some even got this oh-u-r-not-dslr-user-so-ur-pictures-are-bad attitude. seriously, i've met ppl like that. I am juz thinking if you own dSLR, that means ur ego boosted by the camera? Sometimes I got the weird look from the people
