a 'good' tripod

if instability is due to tripod, you might want try to weigh it down, say with your camera bag... that can help to stabilize the tripod...

of course, non-sharpness might be due to other variables, like using the 2x extender will reduce sharpness of the setup...(does the Canon 70-200 need to switch off IS for tripod use? no experience here... for Nikon 70-200 VR its recommended if tripod and head is locked down...)

I have tried both with IS on and off, same result...should have tried weighting the tripod down with my bag. Could be due to the 2X too.

try it out before making an expensive purchase... as well some people would recommend applying downward pressure on the tripod and/or directly down onto the lens by pressing down with their body weight/arm strength to have additional stability... YMMV

Recently used my 30D with 2X and the 70-200mm on my Manfrotto 190MF4 but the pictures on Mr birdy was not sharp at all....:sweat: suspect that the tripod is not stable enough for this setup, need to do more testing :sweat: Saw the Benro on that outing, looks strong

I used the Benro for my birding previouly and i regreted becos the tripod "vibrates" when fully extended. That changes my view on tripod and my final choice is on Gitzo GT3530LSV which till now had not failed me.

Vibrate as only when the shutter is operating or under what circumstances? My 190MF4 last section has very thin legs so its not very stable when depressing the release button, a cable release is critical :sweat:

I used to have the Markins M10 and sold it away. I am currently using a sub $100 ballhead and it's awful. What a mistake. I am looking at getting the Arcatech GV2. Does anybody know where I can buy it locally?

really love the finishing and the looks of it.

+ shipping and GST, comes to about $1050.

my friend helped me matched it with a gitzo GT1540.

this really looks like a good kit for travelling.

my 190b manfrotto will be exiled for good.

Probably because it's manufactured in Manfrotto's facilities now.. Bogen, Manfrotto and Gitzo have been acquired by Vitec Group which makes Vinten video tripods.

Don't think you made the wrong choice. Titanium is light but flex easily and last "forever". Carbon fibre grade is light also but stiff and limited lifespan. Not sure if camera will "bounced" back after you release the shutter in the case of Ti since it springs due to flex. Right logic ?

i thought titanium is one of the toughest material on earth?no?

anyway, my main consideration is weight.
and with that combi, it's acceptable in my context.
i wont know till i go trekking/travelling with it..

Titanium heavy leh.

Weight and overall stability still my most impt. considerations when considering a tripod. Only one brand gives me that...Gitzo.

btw guys, what's the diff between a 3section tripod vs a 4 section one?

friend told me 1540 is shorter when not in use, so ideal for travelling.
but for weight limits and stability, will one matter over the other?

CF is 6x stronger than steel for the same weight. So if it's 6x lighter, then it's only just as strong.. ;p
