A Confession

For me, I just have got two things to say. The first one has got nothing to do with Cash whereas the second one does. Ok for the first one.

For most at least 9 months or older members of this forum know, I got critically injured in the US while on holiday. When I woke up which was 3 weeks later, I thought that my injured status would just be a ok thing for most people here in CS as well as my group of friends. One day in my 4th week in hospital when I awoke, my father brought me this nicely bound booklet which I got. My mouth totally dropped because I saw over 70 names on two get well cards by CSers. I think I teared. Included were get well notes all printed up for me to read. Man, was I touched. People could have reacted that since this is a photography forum, all of this was not necessary. But as what sehsuan said, after all people in a internet forum like this one are humans too and they do have feelings. That is why they reacted the way they did.

As for Cash, do take note that how you critique does affect the person to move up or move down in doing photography. After all most of us are not professionals (only got one job and earning from it) except Ian. Again that is as far as to my own knowlege. Instead, I encourage you that in your critiques to be like those found in photosig and photo.net. Those are constructive comments and does help people to improve. After all, CS was set up so that people in Singapore can learn from those who have been doing it for quite some time and have experience. Let us just stick to that and help each other along. We all desire to be better than what we are now.

Last note. Most likely my third time saying this. THANKS TO ALL THOSE THAT WROTE IN THE THREAD THAT HELPED ME TO KNOW THAT I'VE STILL GOT PALS. :)

Anyway, just my thoughts about this situation.

Hi All,

Hope that this would bring the recent "bad air" in the forums to clear and we can focus on what this forums were meant for (focus, geddit? geddit? hahahah ... erm ... *koff* *koff* erm... yeah ...).

I think its very commendable that Cash has come forward with an explanation of what transpired over the last few days or so - even though it caused a lot of consternation, hand-wringing, name-calling and whatever, I think it has also exposed the fact that most if not all of the members here have a true passion for photography (and its associated trappings of equipment discussion and image critiques) and that we still probably have a lot to learn in the journey towards that perfect exposure.

What I have learnt from this is that for the most part, we (speaking collectively and of the culture in Asia in general) are still very sensitive to critiques - as human beings, we tend to want to hear the positive instead of the negative.

Thus, what can we take away from this saga?

1. If critiques are to be made, it should be accompanied by the why and the how of improvements, thus one-liners and throw-away comments should be avoided. And of course, made in a manner which doesn't put down the member who posted the image.

2. Most if not all the members here are truly supportive of ClubSNAP, and for that we thank you profusely and we hope that, together, we can achieve greater things for photography here.

If you were to look back over the history of the forums, we have come a very long way from the early days when pictures used to only get   or "Nice" or "Great pics" and that there now is a lot more of useful critiquing going on. BUT, we still have a ways to go, and the only way we can get there is to help each other.

Cash, while you have requested your account to be deleted, we will leave it up to you whether you want to stay or leave. We do hope that you can still contribute to ClubSNAP be it in your current guise or in another identity of your own choosing.

To all, let bygones be bygones and lets all move forward together.

Hope to see most of you at next weekend's 'Day@TheZoo party - its gonna be gggggrreaatt!!

Well Cash...this is for you...

let me tell you a story i got when watching a chinese movie...

2 buddhist monks - a master and his disciple came by a stream and saw a seductive,
good figured lady by the stream, waiting for someone to carry her across.

she asked the disciple to help her, but being a monk practising to attain enlightenment,
he straight away refused.

she turned and ask the master. without hesitation,
the master agreed to carry the lady cross the stream.

the master put the lady down on the her feet again once they finished crossing the stream, and then parted.

along the way, the disciple kept questioning his master why he carried the lady,
and for a monk to touch a lady is forbidden.

finally, the monks reached their destination, but the disciple still kept on questioning why the master carried the lady across the stream...

the master replied : "i've put the lady down long time ago, right after we crossed the stream...it is you, who's still carrying the lady in you.....orh mee tor hoot..."

not so good at story telling....coz i dun tell stories? :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

rncw, i remember reading exactly the same thing in the chinese newspapers or kids' newspapers when i was a child.

think it's not your copyright though, it must have around for centuries! :bsmilie:

i translated it from the show in mandarin...and typed in my own simple words...yes, it's been around for centuries. zen.
so can i copyright what i typed in my own words?

We need people like you around. STAY is what I think. Although I do not know you in person but I think you are ok.......I do not find there is any problem with your blunt comment. It's the bluntness shows how many different characters in this forum.

Anyway, why should you even ask this forum whether you should stay or go. Just let it be. You have your own mind. So those who thinks Cash is not ok, just stay away. Blunt his words maybe but the truth will speaks itself.

Forum is for discussion and sometimes argumentive as we are after all humans. So ask yourself this question, "Have you not done any mistake in your life before?" I would applaud CASH as he is bold enough to step in and say something. Nothing to hide and run away from.

Just accept and listen to people's comment. It really does not hurt listening to another person's point of view. Seriously speaking, if some CS members find so difficult to accept another person's point of view, why bother coming in and place your lovely photos. On the technical side like Camera equipment and discussions as well we see plenty of CS members arguing with one another as if they are hostile enemies.

ALL Admins and MODS are somehow qualified to give comments or else they would be in some other forums. But I must say about MODS, they should rectify the problem instead of getting involve.

Thank you.

CASH STAYS..............

aiyah... stay lah.. character like CASH makes forum interesting.. else it will be very boring... every forum needs some colorful, weird and totally out of this world kinda character to make it interesting... juz take his comments with a pinch of salt.

You must thank Lavenderlilz personally for she's the one who painstakingly download all the pages to be nicely printed! ;)

my TAKE on Cash - Stay.

Although I have chosen to abstain from any relevant comments on his behaviour and all, but after reading through his 1st post in this thread, I feel that he deserve another chance. Whether or not he changes his nick or not, he will still be the person he is and that's what I like: honesty.

Although I do find some of his critiques rather harsh but if it's done in the attitude of learning and improving, I don't mind any brutally honest critiques.

Upz for you Cash :)

I heard that beauty is, after all, in the eyes of the beholder.
The point of a critique is to get opinions from other beholders.

I cannot improve myself with nothing.
Once I have put my work in the public eye, I need to be ready for critical (be it negative or positive) comment. In fact I like it more if it’s negative. I learn more that way than if people just say nice picture or nothing at all.
Just be honest, constructive and courteous (HCC).

If this guy – Cash (whoever he/she is) – need my vote. I say stay, and retain the user name.

I think this forum need more people like Cash (with HCC, ofcourse)

a prank? on countless people, you call that a prank? grow up, please. even my primary school students know what is called decency.

and don't use SS to indicate StreetShooter when my name appears on a thread. my name is sehsuan, in case you didn't notice. i dont wish to have anyone thinking i have met you at all - when i'm sheerly disgusted by your experimentation that lasted days on end, when a prank is an once-off affair.
I was refering to streetshooter. And Im still shocked. I hope he didn't make frens with me becos of cheap films but becos he saw online what i was and offline what i was. If he don't want to call it a fren in future, it's fine with me.

I agree completely with SniperD. Cash, just stay.

Hey Cash, let bygones be bygones ... just stay. There won't ever be a consensus on this anyway so why not make good of it :)
