The idea was there. Execution: Totally wrong. This isn't Sim City you know. I appreciate your honesty, and have noticed that you ARE indeed providing constructive comments on people's work.
Did it every occur to you that some of these people could very well be new to photography? Did it every occur to you that while you felt the need to come in here to gauge the quality of this community, someone could have been in here for some help on some particular issue.
I've kept quiet so far, since what you do or say here is your own prerogative. However, instead of helping yourself, you have just nearly killed your own existence on this forum.
Yes. Some people like to have sunshine blown up their butts, while others can take criticism constructively.
I see this community as one that is rich with experience both in photography, and in life. I still remember Sensires' post about his experience at Chingay, and your prompt replies. Did lending a listening ear make him feel better? Yes it did, and i'm glad we were there for him. That is the whole idea of this forum. To be there for people, in good times and in bad ones.
I can understand if you want to emphasize the fact that life is not a bed of roses...really, but i think the last thing that people need here, is to be reminded of that fact. See a picture that doesn't work for you? Explain why. Simple as that. Then again, as with every online community, we must remind ourselves that nobody's the same here. We're from different backgrounds, countries, races and religions. The beauty of it all though, is that we look through the same lenses everyday: our eyes.
So. I've spoken enough, and maybe even too much. I don't think it's fair for you to impose a vote on whether you should stay or go. I'll repeat what Royce has said earlier. Stay if you feel you can contribute positively to this community. Leave if your desire is only to walk around with what i thought was a chip on your shoulder. I believe you have a wealth of knowledge and experience that will benefit all that cross paths with you, however, where you focus that energy of yours is another great mystery. I am a firm believer of potential, and sincerely hope that you will prove the critics wrong.

actually some technical issues to resolve here...
5 votes... does it mean if 7 votes to leave and 5 votes to stay... you stay or leave? any chance for re-counts? re-casting of votes.

If left up to me, just stay. There are equally a lot of people who are not contributing and lurking around so an unpopular vocal member is not a bad person to have around... helps draw flak from me... :bsmilie:

but up till this post, i was having a big headache in thinking, WHY on earth would anyone carry on lambasting people's photographs when they're ordinary, and only saying "you'll go far" as a very bland compliment, without highlighting the positives in the photos? with a melting pot of backgrounds and existence of each and every of us, working, studying - did you bother about feelings? your very actions remind me too of what StreetShooter mentioned about the war atrocities that were committed - the fundamental problem is that people were treated as experiment specimen. i didn't grow up during the WWII, but i've read enough to know how horrible it was. in the work that i do, love is a definite must, and that's perhaps why i was touchy regarding your skewed self-defense attempts. please "touch your conscience" and ask yourself, WHY you want to do this experiment for - you were experimenting on a real online, live community of people, not SimCity as one other CSer mentioned. why didn't you try what you wanted on your family? even if you did, remember, your subjects of experimentation are real animate beings, not some electron simulation in a computer. what you don't want to have, don't try it on others. didn't you learn that in school?
to paraphrase shakespeare, "to stay or leave, that is the question". you have a functional brain, use it for yourself. if your true persona is exactly like what you have been, enjoying carrying out experiments on others, please, try it on yourself. drive yourself crazy if you want to.
Love is a way to live life, hope God touches your heart one day and make you see beyond repentence.

DO you guys seriously think I'll start this thread if I was all out to damge the forum or was very serious with my experiment? I could have gone on and on till I was banned (which will be soon). I made this thread because I saw what a great group this is despite the hooha and there are really many supportive people and firm characters around. SO I played a prank. You mean you never in your life? How many times did you own up in public and was prepared to be made a NAzi?
A little forgiveness and humour goes a long way. I may not be the total nice guy here, at least I wun back stab you when you need help. There are different ways to critique and it is you who should pick the right one to listen to. Don't shout at the critiquer when they didn't provide the normal goody-goody constructive comments. Those who don't say anything are probably too polite to tell you like I did for some. At least you know how some viewers feel. But alas, this critique thing is going nowhere anyway because the rules are different in every forum.
How many times would you see a character like CASH surfacing here? Probably not. You see them everyday in real life. It is how you react and stay calm in the midst of criticism. You don't ask the tiger to shut up, you either kill it or walk off.
My purpose of this prank was not to hurt anyone delibrately because my comments were still in true form and judgements. I peppered a little harshness so I know where and when people defend their art by fighting back. I was probably wrong in doing all these, but I have not thrown personal insults at anyone ever. This is a personal experience for me to evaluate where I should go. I have probably overdone it obviously. But nevermind. My bad.
ANother thing. I must applaud IAN and DARREN for being 2 of the best MODS I have seen around here. They carried their duties professionally and honestly, Im speechless. No Im not licking thier boots now. You guys have 2 treasures in the forum.
Last note. SS, Im very shocked with your analysis about me. Honestly, I thought we had our differences cleared. You have met me and you know who I am and how I treat people. I thought we were totally on Q now, but alas, ok so I screwed up. But what u said, whooo, heavy stuff. ANd I don't appreciate at all you bringing up old facts up when you could just call me names right here and now. Really, shocked. If I you think I deserve your friendship, tell me. AM I like that in OS? HAve you helped a friend who screwed up? Or you just offer him another step into the grave?
I apologised to everyone in CS for these nonsense. I wish you all well. In reality, if we ever meet up, U won't see cash or nets, just me, an ordinary guy like everyone else.

There isn't a need to justify or explain your acts now that its been done. I fail to see your purpose in "peppering" your comments to "test" responses. What's wrong with being true and constructive in a different manner? Then maybe this whole episode would have been avoided.
You're right, we don't see "Cash" very often but then again, do we really need "Cash"? I don't think so. What we need is someone who can be true and constructive without sounding obnoxious.
I was in a similar situation like you about a year ago. Mind you, I wasn't being obnoxious and rude as some had pointed out then. Like you, I hated being told what to say and what not to say here. I haven't changed. I still comment on images when asked to but I've never ever dropped a malicious one liner to condemn an image or asked someone to stop shooting. They didn't prove to be instructive or constructive at all did they?
You are right, there are different kind of critics. Good or bad is subjective but being a constructive critic makes the environment a whole lot easier. Like you said, take it easy.
If the intention of starting this tread is to gather enough people to ask you to stay, then I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you. I won't ask you to leave nor will I ask you to stay. I don't believe that its in my interest nor my duty to make that decision.
