Day 5 - Inle Lake: Onwards to the Padaung Tribe.

After lunch, Melvin gave us another surprise... tazzie21's dream came true...
... we were going to take photos of the Long-necked Padaung tribe!
But due to time constraint, we had to forgo our trip to the ancient ruins of the Shwe Inn Thein Phaya.
But the anticipation of the Padaung got every one excited...

On our way to Padaung Tribe... we cross path with a boat of novice monks...

... and we came across Stupas across the opposite banks...

limwhow #219
... and we were welcomed by none other than the Padaung Tribe ladies themselves...

Day 5 - Inle Lake: Nga Phe Kyaung Jumping Cat Monastery
We next 'cruised' to this lake side monastery.
Another one of my many print-outs in my handphone:
Nga Phe Kyaung Jumping Cat Monastery is a Buddhist monastery by the banks of Inle Lake in Myanmar. Also written as Nga Hpe Chaung, this attractive wooden monastery built on stilts over Inle Lake at the end of the 1850s.

Nga Phe Kyaung has become a tourist attraction in Myanmar for its jumping cats. To while away time in the monastery, the monks of Nga Phe Kyaung have taught a few of the many cats living with them to jump through hoops. This has provided some entertainment and made Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery an unlikely tourist attraction. Apart from that, visitors may admire the beautiful architecture and picturesque setting in which the monastery was built.

Just a record shot of this monastery...

limwhow #222
And another record shot of a bunch of very enthusiastic shooters waiting waiting waiting and waiting...
... eagerly anticipating the beginning of the Jumping Cat routine...

limwhow #223
By the time we finished with the Jumping Cat monastery, it was almost 5pm.
Melvin said:
"OK Ladies and Gentlemen, we are going to fast boat to somewhere in the lake with the setting sun in the background.
Each boat has five of you shooters in it. And you have full control of your boat. Instruct your rower to position yourselves in whatever good position to shoot any of the many Intha Rowers on the lake..."
So we tried.
This is just a record shot. No where near the perfect shot by Gapman, but it is the best that I could muster.

Here's my newbie shot on seagulls.
请多多指教!:D

Soaring, drifting, flying high seagulls.
There are many seagulls there and we have bought some biscuits to feed them..Wa..they are so close to us.

Swee, swee shots. Great titles also.

Pressure pressure! Let's have a comic break first;)

Wah, one nap and 5 more pages to catch up. Really can't afford to shut eyes :)

This is funny, luckily the boat was moving really slowly and the river was very calm. Our Scotsman even tried standing up for his photo in the speeding boat on Inle Lake, that's quite insane if you ask me :)

Here is another one of my humble terrible shots.

Very nice. Like the sunset, like the special effect and definitely like the gull formation.

Here are my molested shots ;)

5392588501_390e12823e_b.jpg

The thing about birding .. Doc.. sadly is many more things .. of the few that I know is .. exposure of the feature .. yours and mine all burn .. the birders see liao all laughing like siao

Another is the feather details .. our not much .. or nearly don't have

So a powerful prime zoom lens is critical for this type of photography .. but since ours is for Fun and Laugher .. I guess it is barely ok lah

Another ..

5393420584_d0bf4bd90a_b.jpg

Edit : Correct myself .. not prime zoom .. but Prime lens .. sorry

Really really very good catch. Discounting all the technicalities, these are two very good shots !

SK1968, this one is really a powerful powerful shot.
The high speed capture with the droplets flying all over and the ox's expression.
It is truly magnificent.

Tks, lucky shot :)

Travelling on the boat is almost taken out from the James Bond movie with speed as fast as the horse power can carry.

You are indeed very creative at exploring all the possibilities with the camera

What more can I say.:thumbsup:

Swee :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Sorry for the late replies, Gentlemen.
But I must say big thank you's to you all for your encouragement.
The boys in black have been magnanimous.
They quietly let me show my deficiencies in shooting seagull eyes, without hum-tum-ing me.
I was hoping to see more positive demonstrations from my all these good brothers.
But they let this young little brother here have my show and yet, give me the thumbsups.
Now that, is what I call 大哥's!
I have seen all your seagull eyes by all your big Black machines, and let me tell you...
Now I finally know what is sharp seagull eyes.
And with humility, I bow low to all you Men in Black.

With humility I come. Nikon.

Well, later when the sun set across Inle Lake at around 5:30pm, the whole place was basked in Golden Light.
It was a magical scene, one which I have never seen before in my whole life.
I am no where as lucky as this seagull whom, I am certain, has seen this every living evening of its life.
5393475406_9585734941_o.jpg

The space to the left plus the eyes looking the same direction, the blue cloudless sky, the golden glow under its belly and wings plus the spot on exposure...worthy of hanging on the wall :thumbsup:

Another one of SK1968's Burmese daughters...? :bsmilie:

ah, looks like i have adopted at least 2 cute daughters on this trip...here's another look at my cute daughter :)

5358895001_2b040d9913_b.jpg

When we were at the Jumping Cat Monastery, after checking that my lens and ISO couldn't cope with the low light level in the monastery itself, i wandered off to the back of the monastery and saw this...just for record...the place would have been nicer if the time was later with softer sunset lighting...but i like the peace and emptiness here...

Also caught this boy in his 'buay gum guan' expression....:bsmilie:
