haha..but seriously... i have been considering the 5Dmk2 since erm..last yr..haha. only recently i made my case to get a 5Dmk2 more strongly. when i saw the reduced price..i didn't even realise it was reduced..haha:sweat:

but i guess it's quite a welcome for me. do most shops have stock on the body-only? from what i read seems like body-only is out of stock..and only left body+lens

It's been almost 2 months since the price drop for 5D Mk2.

What happened to:

1. The 'new' FF camera from Canon?
2. The 'new' FF camera from Nikon?
3. The price drop for 1D Mk4?

All these speculations - and in the end, the reason was probably just to keep itself competitive with D700!

Never read too much into price movements!

If the rumor is true, and the price cut was in preparation for the 5D Mk3 coming in 2011, then I think Canon has cut the price of 5D Mk2 too soon!

my 2cents... depends on how u look at it, maybe a marketting strategy because 5D MK2 is too exp, price drop makes it more attractive and remain competitive.
Then why reduce it so early? so when ppl buy and reasonable time later there are bound to be people who wants to upgrade lol so they earn again!

If you have been working in Manufacturing....you will realised that such "high tech" equipment cost only like US$250 to produce a 5DM2.

I use to work at Motorola, their startec X handphone which was retailed at $700 with 2 years plan at that time cost US$35 to produce only.

So the really earn from us BIG TIME!

I use to work at Motorola, their startec X handphone which was retailed at $700 with 2 years plan at that time cost US$35 to produce only.

Yea I agree, the manufacturing cost is quite low if you already have the proper equipment. But I tot part of the $ they take also to pay for very expensive R&D? Don’t think we can look at plain manufacturing cost alone. Maybe with R&D cost factored, their profit margin may be 50%? But i know thats still ALOT!

yes. the components are very cheap lah. i happened to be in manufacturing lol. thats why they are trying to earn as much as they can right.. lol

but dont forget hor.. production cost is cheap on components n assembly. how much time did their R&D spent to design a new camera? and the bosses also need to eat... thats why so exp lol

Don't forget the marketing, a lot of money in there too.
