Got mine for USD1,355 including shipping. Right now it has gone up to USD1,499 I believe and refurbished goods are very much in high demand even for the 5D, you have to check back regularly and if there is, you have make decision quick else, it'll be snapped up.

5D has IQ that is unbeatable even by the latest 1.6x, 1.5x, 1.3x DSLRs simply because of the it's full frame sensor which will also give you pleasing shallower DOF and be surprised by the amount of details it can capture. The only reason you might not be happy about is perhaps the 2.5" LCD or the lack of certain bells and whistles but that's because I'm spoilt by 5D Mark II. Nevertheless, after a shooting session, when you come to your workstation to see the photos... the quality it produces, will satisfy your ownership of the camera... that's something everyone here who has used /are using the 5D can second.

I sold off almost my entire Nikon setup and made the jump to Canon by getting the 5D. Old tech but it is FF and still produces magnificent picture, even when compared to latest models such as D300. I was lucky enough to have bought one in excellent condition from a lady user and it was only bought in August last year! Very pleased with the result with my current setup and I don't have to spend a bomb to get FF. 5D is definitely worth the money if you don't need the HD video and other features in the Mk II.

If you do not need the HD video function and rarely print > Super 8R (i.e. A3 size), 5D will more than fulfill your needs.

i'd have to disagree with a part of this. i've printed larger than A3 (30 x 20 inches) and the photo has come out beautifully sharp.

thanks guys for all ur comments! =)
defintely i will be going for a FF camera.
Im on the lookout for 2nd hand 5D now too. so msg me if u got one for sale. haha
im looking for one which is bout 10 condition. so crossing my fingers hard

Amen to that....

I take back my statement about not printing larger than A3 size. :embrass: Yes, agree, you can blow up prints greater than A3 size with no problems especially if you shoot RAW and with good post processing. Actually for A3 size even a file from a good 6MP sensor can have loads of details too. So larger than A3 is definitely no problem for the 12MP 5D Mk I.

Probably I should have worded it this way: Resolution wise 12 MP is usually more than enough for anybody, unless you are regularly doing very large commercial prints, thats where the 21MP of 5DII excels.

actually does the difference from 1.3x and FF is alot?
if not what makes the 1D series and 5D so much price difference.

I second to your statement. My old Sony 3.2MP PnS can print borderless on A4 sharp, the 5D's 12.8MP sensor can go way more than A3.

It's not that a lot too. 1D series are pro series. AF system, built, buffer size and multibursts rate already win the 5D series.

But speaking of buffer size, i think the 5D MK II one is slightly smaller than 5D in jpeg mode.

Hi,

Any of you 5D users use manual lenses with adaptors on your cam? If yes, have you experienced any issue with the mirror with certain manual lenses, especially those in Contax/Yashica mount? Reason I am asking is that I want to switch from my 40D to a 5D and want to make sure I can use all my current manual lenses.

Thanks,

Anthony Lee

U can use the new Carl Zeiss ZE mount for Canon. I don't think u need an adaptor already.

does anyone knows of website which i can order any 2nd hand 5D ?

btw may I ask, are they still selling spare batteries for 5D ?

Understand that but more important is my current collection of manual lenses consisting of the CZ/CY mount, Leica R mount, Oly OM mount, etc..These lenses will stretch the resolving power of the 5D's sensor. I am waiting for the new ZE Distagon 21mm f2.8.

Shinn: I bought a spare origial battery from parissilk for 120 SGD.

Anyway, similar to Randius, I sold off my entire Nikon digital system (though still keeping my Nikon film gear) and switched over to the Canon 5D and i was blown away by the sheer image quality that i was getting compared to my old D300.

My Nikon 50mm f1.2 AIS really shines on the 5D, and i seem to nail the focus everytime compared to my old D300 which misfocuses. Some may ask why i got the 5D instead of the D700, well, for a student like myself, its partly more economical for me as well, as i got my 5D and grip from a friend for a very very good price. Furthermore, suddenly, a wider array of fast primes and f4 L zooms options were open to me, very exciting indeed. Plus the prospect of mounting any lens brand or make to the 5d via adapter was also appealing, which meant more room to try out different lenses.

Some pple ask me why i gave up the d300 for a 3-4 year old camera that seem like old technology compared to the new, but for me, it was more of an upgrade, i can shoot at iso 800-1600 without much of a care, but with my old d300, i was careful not to go beyond that due to excess noise.

To sum up, im a very happy user, really surprised by the results im getting from my 17-40L, fab lens, fab colours, and I urge those considering the 5D to give it a shot. I did and I never looked back. Its one heck of a camera.

5D uses BP-511A and they're still widely available. I use 3rd party ones for mine and they're better.

That u'll have to use adaptor but whether will it match the 5D i wouldn't know. I've still yet to try out the ZE Planar *T 50 f/1.4 to see how it matches my EF 50 f/1.2L.

Hi,

Good to hear a former Nikon guy using the famous 50mm f1.2 ais on the 5D. So you have no issue with the mirror hitting the lens, this is good to hear. I have tried most of the manual lenses which include the Zeiss, Leicas, Oly OM, Pentax, Mamiya, Pentagon on my 40D but have yet to try any Nikon ais lenses. Waiting to lay my hands on a good 50 f1.2 ais when I get my 5D.

I was a 5D user jumped from 400D. It was giant leap! As what other have said 5D is great cam, you will never go wrong with it. Recently just sold away jumpedto mk2 fit its HD capability

Hi Anthony, yes, the 50mm f1.2 is a lovely lens, the manual focusing feel is great and the tones, colours and bokeh produced wide open is rather pleasing imo. Hmm, no issues with mirror hitting the lens, or else, i'd have started a thread on a "Broken mirror 5D due to MF lenses" thread:) Somehow i feel that these MF lenses perform better on a FF sensor.
