this cam is cheap and pack with come power. that why alot ppl opt for this cam :)
 

am planning to get the EF-S 55-250mm lens this weekend.. from what i have read, this is a more beginner lens, which is just right for me. its relatively smaller and quite light, so carrying it around while walking won't be that big a problem (i think). it also sort of complements my current 18-55mm kit lens, as i can use it to shoot images that are further away.

i've read differing views with regards to the photo quality though.. some have very good reviews, while others clearly hate this lens. the build quality is something that i have my doubts about, but for the price, i can't really ask for much more.

wondering if any here have experience with this lens and are able to advise? :cool:

am aiming for this lens as well. 55-250IS. erm, gd beginner lens but not sure I'll get it @ S$390. waiting for price to fall though.

I bought it during the IT fair and I think I paid a bit too much ($399) for it. Was a little too anxious.

Am also a beginner but nonetheless have taken it out for a "spin" at my church's inaugural service at our new building.

The good thing about the 55-250mm is that it gives you the opportunity to capture things at close up at a much further distance. It allows for greater intimacy and less intrusion as the subject is often unaware of your presence - so it's a real good plus for candid shots.

In terms of image quality, I think it fairs well though at times I wish it was maybe a little sharper with better IS. The other drawback it tends to underperform in low light due to the smaller f4/5.6. Have yet to take it out to do outdoor shots though but I think there shouldn't be any problems with it. Otherwise, no complaints thus far.

The flip side is that you would have to switch lens if you want your wide angle/normal shots.

Some images that I took (post processed). Did a series of black and whites because the lighting wasn't very good and it sort of fit the mood.

I am a 500D user! Just happened that in that shot, the two guys shooting were using 50Ds. And I was the one using the 500D to shoot the 50Ds. haha.

The last picture wasn't cropped and it was at 55mm and I was quite far back. So that's like the minimum zoom.

Hi all, I just looked at the bottom of my 500D to screw the tripod plate when i saw a unusual hole at the bottom (Not the tripod mount) , then when i looked closer... To my horror, there was suppose to be a black colour plus screw in it... and i cannot seem to find it anywhere. What should i do???

My 500D also has it as well. It does not look like a screw hole. In fact it is not a through hole, technically, it is a coring hole for moulding the plastic. Nothing to worry about ;)

Am also a beginner but nonetheless have taken it out for a "spin" at my church's inaugural service at our new building.

The good thing about the 55-250mm is that it gives you the opportunity to capture things at close up at a much further distance. It allows for greater intimacy and less intrusion as the subject is often unaware of your presence - so it's a real good plus for candid shots.

In terms of image quality, I think it fairs well though at times I wish it was maybe a little sharper with better IS. The other drawback it tends to underperform in low light due to the smaller f4/5.6. Have yet to take it out to do outdoor shots though but I think there shouldn't be any problems with it. Otherwise, no complaints thus far.

The flip side is that you would have to switch lens if you want your wide angle/normal shots.

Some images that I took (post processed). Did a series of black and whites because the lighting wasn't very good and it sort of fit the mood.

I'm new here. Had finally decided to leave my gf's father's 450D alone and buy my own 500D. Will be getting it either this weekend or next. Anybody got any recommendations as to which I should go to? I guess the more popular ones would the Alan Photo, Cathay Photo, TK Photo and John 3:16. Any other recommendations?

Also, I guess the camera should come in a package with 8GB memory card, camera bag and others. Anybody can give a rough guide on how much a 500D body, with 18-200mm lens package should cost?

go ask for quote first.

to be honest, kit len IQ is ok but lack of punch if u compare to better len out there. u may wanna consider get other lens if u into photography all along :)

If you've an old Canon camera in any condition (film, Point-n-Shoot, with/without batt, working/non-working) for trade-in, just go to:

Ask for Canon Privilege Program and trade-in your any-condition (Canon only camera for 500D kit II 18-200 for $1667 w GST (KitI is $1111). Compared to the popular shops which are selling between $1850-1950, the 500D KitII trade-in is a fantastic deal. Once you've registered for trade-in, you will have to wait for 5-10 working days before going back to CSC to collect your order. You can pay with credit card as well. Can you enlighten me on what is "Kit Lens IQ"? I'm on a budget, trying to keep my first DSLR below S$2,000 first. Will invest in better lenses (of course, who doesn't?) when the time is right.

I've read about this program for quite a while, but never got to find out exactly how much the package will be after discount. Now that you've let me in on this juicy news, seems like a pretty good deal after all.
