Good news bro, i found the appropriate setting liao.

based on the instruction manual that is what i expect should be the way but does not work this way for me.

Could it be you've set the AF to AI SERVO in the M, Av, TV and A-DEP mode? If you're on AI SERVO mode, the AF will focus but will not have any "pi,pi" sound. When you switch to "non-creative" mode from AI SERVO mode, the AF will automatically switch back to "one shot" focusing mode and half pressing the shutter button will triggers focusing and "pi, pi" sound.
 

Here's how I managed to get my "creative" modes to autofocus with half shutter.

Go to menu, then Custom Functions (C.Fn) and enter.
Then for setting 10, change it to 0: AF/AE lock.

wala.... done.

it was originally on 1: AE lock/AF.

Hope this helps some others who faced the same problem as me.

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to SLR cameras, and I just got my Canon 500D at $1299 (incl GST) at Harvey Norman. Free gifts include 1 8GB SD Card, 1 Canon Tripod, 1 UV Filter, 1 SONY Carrying Case, 1 Lens Book.. I also extended 2 more yrs of warranty with Harvey Norman at $152. Is this price reasonable? :)

At Picture Style, select one of the three user define mode.
then press menu, and set on the user 1/2/3 then select monochrome, then select color.
