Hi, just to help answer. "Kit Lens IQ" probably means the image quality of the kit lens. Cheers!
I see. Understood. I've been using 18-200mm lens on a 450D for a while now. Found it to be okay. Probably for my shooting needs now anyways.

Are there any better lenses than the 18-200mm in its class? Able to shoot landscape and zoomed in shots without changing lens? Sorry ahh my questions may seem a bit amateur. :D

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm new here. Had finally decided to leave my gf's father's 450D alone and buy my own 500D. Will be getting it either this weekend or next. Anybody got any recommendations as to which I should go to? I guess the more popular ones would the Alan Photo, Cathay Photo, TK Photo and John 3:16. Any other recommendations?

Also, I guess the camera should come in a package with 8GB memory card, camera bag and others. Anybody can give a rough guide on how much a 500D body, with 18-200mm lens package should cost?

Appreciate everyone's advice. Thanks and have a good night!

if you don't have any canon camera to 'trade-in' via the privilege programme, i suggest you visit John 3:16. Look for Samuel. I can meet you and bring you to his shop to try as many cameras as you wish. :P

Thank for your kind offer! I just got an old Canon Powershot A75 from my friend and will be going down to place the order this evening! Damn exciting.

Since I have to wait one or two weeks, might as well place the order early hehehehehe. Will Canon throw in a camera bag as freebie? :S

Anyway, I'm happy to be part of the club. :D

Welcome to the 500D club bro

The camera bag was out of stock as of last week, that's why they are giving the EF lenses book instead.

Placing order is on the 4th level while collection of free gift is on the 1st floor showroom. You can check with the 1st floor showroom the current free gift for the trade-in program ;)

lol. super exciting. =) welcome to the club. it takes only abt 2 to 3 days if there is stock. just give them a ring.

Thanks guys! :D

Update: I was at CSC an hour ago, placing my order right after work. The guy told me it'll take 2 or 3 working days, so I can expect to collect mid next week. But he wasn't too sure about the free gifts, only told me I won't be getting a camera bag. Got quoted $1667 as usual. Feeling superbly happy, except my carpark costed $6.12 for 45 mins parking. -grumbles on and on-

But oh wells, too happy to be mad about the carpark. :D

AHHHHHH!!! :D

Hey ! Parking is free for Canon customers; just drive into the designated Canon carpark area; collect from the uncle the slip and get it chopped at CSC.

$6.12 for 45 mins is very high; worst than CDB areas. But usually they have a 20 mins grace period for free FYI.

There is a long thread discussing on this. Basically you just go to CSC with any canon camera, you may then buy a new camera at special discounted price. It's called privileged purchase program. If I remember correctly, 500D body only is $952.

Hi all, I just got myself a new 500D today with the 18-55mm lens included in the kit, and an additional EFS 50mm f1.8 lens which the guy at the shop recommended.

For the EFS 50mm f1.8 lens, what did the guy at shop recommend it for?
I mean for what kind of shooting purposes.

I found the answer after searching the forum...thanks to CS

Are you refering to Bokeh? If you want bokeh for your photo, you will need to shoot at wider aperture. For your 18-55mm lens, the widest aperture for 18mm is f3.5 and 55mm is f5.6.

I'm a bokeh freak and that's why I bought my Sigma 50mm F1.4 lens which produces very creamy and smooth bokeh:heart::thumbsup:. Do read up on bokeh and understand your 18-55 lens before you think of getting additional lenses ;)

There are many wide angle lenses from Canon, Sigma, Tamron and Tokina to list a few. A popular Canon wide angle lens is the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. If you're into landscape photography, the 10-22 would be a good range. Do compare similar lenses from Sigma, Tamron and Tokina before purchasing.
