hey i was just thinking, the magnification on the LCD screen 10x, so for 15Mp and 920k screen, we won't be getting a 100% crop equivalent right?

Ref to the dry cabi, guess that after you got your 500D body and kit lens (min), then there is NOTHING else to invest except a proper and suitable storage place (dry box or cabi doesnt matter).

But, personally I have invested on Dry Cabi AD-060 (bought from MS) for my 500D; 18-55mm and 55-250mm (and soon 50mm f/1.8).

Reason doing so (investing on proper/suitable storage space), as i believe to make the RIGHT footing from the very begining is crucial to maintain the equipments' condition.
(of course, also this is the practice of the Pros, whom have a lot more reasons that I do)

grip for 450D can be used for 500D. BG-E5 I think.

Does anyone know how to set the aperture of 500d for video filming or not.

i know that it cannot be adjusted during filming, but is it possible to set the aperture before I start to film or not.

I gave a test run on my 500D with 430EX and combinations of kit lens and 17-85mm lens as a 2nd photographer for a wedding function. But I have yet to upload and check out how those photos turned out. Will upload some within these few days before I leave for a short vacation.
