The only reason you feel that way is because they use a softer rubber material on the grips compared to the D80/90. It is the same grip material found on the D100.

And also the part where the front dial lies. It's more triangular.

Am contemplating this two pieces now... Can my SLR lens from Canon be used on 550D ?
That's my only concern...retired on SLR...coming over to DSLR...;p

I'm using a EF 35-80mm lens from EOS 500 (film SLR) on EOS 1000D.

Think this has been mentioned by many ppl here. It's partially meant as a joke, and partially because Nikon gears are often black in colour, with only a handful exceptions.

u dun change from 500D to D90 for the sake of upgrade, unless you have a very strong inherent reason to do so... IMHO... pictures produce by Canon or Nikon are essential indistinguishable... What do you see in Nikon D90 that Canon EOS50D/7D don't have?

Well..... I just changed from canon 50D to nikon D90, could consider upgrade or downgrade neh? It actually all depends on you, i change due to I really like the function and how D90 operate... =) Cheers

its been decades how Canon & Nikon has been on a stand-off over whos equipment is better, however IMHO i think 500D to D90 is an upgrade.
