I do not understand why Canon produce a DSLR without spot metering :dunno::dunno::dunno:
.
300D
350D
400D
1000D

The 450D is a better camera than the the 400D but the 400D would be much nicer if it had "Spot metering" !

I just don't get their idea of excluding spot metering on the lower of their models.
Is it to try and get buyers to go a step higher in their purchase :dunno:

Cheers :)

9 Auto focus pt vs 7 focus pt. ;)

i feel that the difference between 9 and 7 AF points is insignificant. No doubt the 7-point AF system is older, but it's no slouch either.

also, i'm guessing that someone will eventually find a way to hack the 1000D to enable 3fps raw shooting; it seems to me more like crippling in software a la 300D.

If it is selling for less than $800, I would consider tolerating the crippling.

They have been doing that(or not doing that) since film. All lower range film bodies don't have spot meter too. Not surprising.

If selling for less than $800, no spot metering is ok for me. :(
My old 20D kit at almost 3k had no spot metering too.

BMW 523i vs BMW 520i,both facelifted.

Up to you if you want a cheaper 5 series without dual exhaust, reduced engine to 2.0 Inline 4,smaller rims and all by almost 20k
Your take :bsmilie:

if only 20k difference, then 523i for me. :)

in terms of specs & current online prices between the two, 450D for me.

I would have said 1000D.

But it appears that Canon is not putting the improved 10 MP CMOS sensor from their 40D on this little camera. They have chosen instead to stick to the noisier 10 MP sensor from the previous 400D.

That gets a thumbs down from me.

Now, that's something I didn't know. :)

Can you really tell the difference? Unless you shoot at > ISO 800 most of the time, else you would be really hard pressed to perceive any noise difference between both sensors.

It's very obvious at ISO 800 and 1600. The noise in the 400D sensor shows up as white speckles everywhere and it's extremely hard to remove.

Edit: I should explain I only shoot RAW. I know Canon jpegs are free from those awful white speckles.

was just at the Canon Store..

They've just started selling the 1000d. There's a display model that you can play with too.

With kit lens $1099

what lens are they providing? 15-55mm? where is canon store at?

Oops, sorry

it's listed as Kit I (they didn't list any other options though)

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

The Canon store at Vivocity (next to GV)

I don't think anyone in his right mind would pick a xx0D or the new xxx0D series for birding at all... To be fair, it's not geared towards that, only towards newbies or to people who want a light fun camera.

Here is a preview at dpreview. There is a comparison with 450D and 400D on page 2. It seems like it is as good as the 400D. So if the price is right ....

List price is 549 Euro for body, 649 Euros for kit (18-55 IS) vs

799 and 899 for the 450D. So it is priced about 30% cheaper than 450D.

Local prices for 450D are about S$1150 and S$1350, so with 30% discount, it will be about S$800 and $950. Sounds good doesn't it?

Sunday Time Lifestyle page 3 SGD1099 comes with 18-55mm IS...

For Me..
I will vote for 450D... not cos I own a 450D now.

Is cos the quality for 1KD is not very good.. Very Very PLASTIC Feeling....
the LCD screen is smaller compare to 450D, button feel bad too....
grip feeling is not that good too....

But for those just want to own a DSLR with a tight budget can go for 1KD...
but make sure... you dont compare and complaint abt the body and overall feeling.
cos that will be the price you are paying for.
If you want just want to take pic... then is OK.. to go for that....

If not.. better to get 450D or 40D.... If you have abit more cash on hand.

1000D can be used as the '2nd camera' for wedding shots for candid purposes, when coupled with a 50 1.8 :)

I thinking of getting this as the '2nd camera'. My main cam will still be 5D with an L lens and a flash.

1000D with the 18-55IS can also be used as a 'compact camera' overseas, if you want to carry minimal baggage and don't want lug so many things along
