Hi all don't worry about the kit len, today i then discover this cheap len is " MADE IN JAPAN":bsmilie:In my mind I taugh this is a Malaysia made len ?:nono:

Like it really matters...

Dude, the 50mm f/1.8 is a lens that's made in Malaysia. Never stopped me, nor most other users here, from getting good images out of it.

yes, find first the limits of the kit lens, this one taken with it also.

and also don't hammer the shutter button, press it gently.....;)

No offence intended, but the image really isn't much to show in the way of sharpness. It looks like there is a fair bit of softness.

I managed to dig an old close-up shot with the 40D and 18-55 IS kit lens, handheld. Not too sure about the exposure settings, 'cause it was taken a long time ago. I'd say the kit lens is really a lens with very good resolving power. You have to work it a little, because it is a little limiting, but when you know what you're doing, and given not-to-trying conditions, you'll get results that are definitely decent at least.

calebk is right, 18-55 IS is a insane high resolving power lens for a kit:bsmilie:.

too bad it is efs.

tok this phot at work...first one handheld, second one with tripod...it looks good small (thumbnails and viewfinder) but still kinda soft large...
Used the trechniques as advised by the bro and sis recommended...

Its hard to compare your pics with the rest , coz all the others posted very small images. But why are you using f/32?

cos its soft wide open..so i took using multiple f stops to see how its like..gt others which i didnt post.anyway, i took some random nite shots and it turned out pretty fine...will post it up once i get home..now going to pang kang.

what is the "sweet spot" for 450d kit lens? (f5.6-f11?)
My pics are also shah...but after some sharpening with DPP the pic looks good...details are all retain..wonder is this a norm..:)

thanx bro..and thanx everybody else who were trying to help me get it right..haha

try to avoid using small apertures (ie. ƒ/22-ƒ/32) especially at wider angles, as diffraction effects may reduce the sharpness of the image.

Facebook tends to degrade the image due to compression.
