Interesting notes on the technical aspects. Hitchcock fan? North by Nortwest is the one for me.

Go - has shades of Tarantino-esque, dark comedy. If you like Pulp Fiction, you'll love this - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139239/

Le Samourai - French, old movie, by the master Jean-Pierre Melville, one of Tarantino's favorites - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062229/

Tropa de Elite - Brazilian, deserves all its awards, outstanding action and storyline, brilliant. Best in a superb home theater system - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0861739/

Excellent choreography, super realistic footages. The struggles of corruption, the police, the drug lords and the doldrums in the slums of Rio is an impressive depiction. After watching this, makes all other police themed movies child's play.

If u loved City of God, seriously do not give Tropa de Elite a miss.

great recommendation clubgrit

Amelie, Love the cinematography and storyline... ;)
Which is why I finally visited France last year

Watched Tropa de Elite some time back, the premise was good. But felt that the editing left the storyline halting and abrupt at times

12 Angry Men might be my best loved movie (Friend has suggested 44 inch chest, but I seldom have the time and patience for talkies anymore)
Notable others which come to mind: American History X and Shawshank Redemption, Twilight Samurai

I thought the final ending was rather impactful, where the resounding second marks matias' harsh transformation of self.

Loved American History X, and Shawshank Redemption is a cult classic for many. Never watched twilight samurai though, maybe I shld go find a copy

Over the years, I find that I no longer watch movies with the same frequency.
Can rarely find time or grow so restless that I'll pause a show to come back to it later, but by that time I've forgotten and have to start from the beginning.
2 years ago there was this particular movie (of which I can't remember the title now! haha figures) which was a total jinx, must have start, stop, restart at least 5 times and never completed.
Have spent more time watching tv series instead, like bite sized snacks instead of a full meal :p ; the HBO miniseries are of pretty exceptional quality.
I recently finished watching Generation Kill. Excellent docudrama and very impactful. The dialogue is amazing, listen to the radio chatter at the end. Comparisons to Band of Brothers are totally unfair, each has its own merits.
*which kinda reminds me of Jarhead, but Swofford's book is much much much much much much better than the show, no matter how much Gyllenhaal's doozy look fits the part so much
