i'm not sure, you might able to ask for international warranty? correct me if i'm wrong. :d

RM5800 is about right for street price here. Possibly can go slighlty lower (RM5750?). However, accessories like filters are cheaper in singapore!

Any CSers from KL or JB ? Update the best price and recommended shops :)

Oh no.. was goin to place order tomo.. now with Kutu's post...

I am goin to KL in the next few days. I will check.

I used to work In Canon Singapore. And as far as I know unless they changed the conditions, Canon Singapore recognises International Warranty. You can actually check the website for more details. ;)

What is the price for 20D? Thinking of switching camps leh :D

take a bus to KL n buy lor.... 4hrs trip there only....lol

Pentax C5050 came with international warranty, even the lens that I bought for MX-3. The *istD came with both local & internal warranty.

If you do not mind carrying that amount of cash to Malaysia, then it worth the effert.

When you pay by credit, you have to pay 2%? On top of the purchase price, the card company uses exchange like for eg 2.17 to 2.19. You ended up paying more.

Look at it in perspective, you save $400 in Malaysia from $3000 to $2600. Remember that there are many people here are considering cameras between $400 and $500. Your saving is significant.

The issue of warranty has been clarified, and better still, someone can just call up Canon. Then you factor in the travel time, risk of carry so much money, etc. Frankly speaking, unless you dress in diamonds and you wave your cash around, nobody will bother you in Malaysia.

Especially for those who travel often to KL, or is going to make a trip, saving of $400 is equivalent to a rather good piece of lens!

I am Malaysian. I shoot Fuji S2pro. I believe in spending wisely.

Restriction is specifically on Ringgit (RM1k) and foreign currency (RM10k equivalent) unless that had changed.

Would credit card be simpler perhaps?

Not true lah... this applies to non-resident Malaysian as well:

Travellers
A non-resident traveller visiting or leaving Malaysia is permitted to carry with him any amount of foreign currency notes and travellers cheques (provided that on his departure from Malaysia, he leaves with an amount not exceeding the amount he entered with). However, he is only permitted to carry Ringgit currency notes of up to RM1000.

bring sing dollars go in find tukur wang, change liao then use.... who will know? no one gonna check u on that.... have u wonder how much those poor fello spend in genting casino? if they lose then nvm, what if they win....? no need to declare lah~

Out of interest I put this forward. Here in Australia, some retail stores can offer an extended warranty to items they sell. I have that option where I work. :)
So far (and I believe always will be) a good option. The extra warranty has always been honored. To the point that a camera returned as faulty after say 2 years of ownership, has not simply been repaired, but replaced with a new one (latest model of same). Personally (due to what I have witnessed), I take out the extra warranty on everything I purchase. ;)
The extra warranty does not extend to fair tare and ware (fair enough), but does to things such as ... dead LCD...CCD...on board chips etc
This can save a LOT of money in the long run. Do you have that option there.
Does anyone have thoughts on this ?? :what:

Nice to see a few mykamera.com guys here!

Back to topic... I went with my cousin to pick up his 20D last week. RM5,600 body only, in KL.

The breakdown on this is...
1)Trade in his 300D for RM2,100 (body only)
2)Top up RM3,500 for the 20D Body.

So the dealer might have some latitude in the trade in :)

Steve.

Trade in 300D in KL? Where was this please?

Thanks! :)

Leos.Com, 1st. Floor Ampang Park Shopping Complex.

YMMV with them because my cousin has a pretty good business relationship with this shop.

But its worth a try!

Steve.
