totally agree with ClipperSG. Prost/Senna/Mansell even young shumi-prost era was the pinnacle of F1, when Hakkinen/Shumi era came it's the time they went mainstream. they made it a famous sport.

Noticed the metal plate on the lens states 400 F2.8...so unless got extender?

i'm not sure how many MP your camera has, however there might be those few pixels burnt out to make you believe it's a 400/2.8. the section between the drop in filter and the EF mount gives it away easily as a 500 or 600... that part i personally can't tell apart yet.

however the way he's carrying the entire setup indicates he doesn't need to run much. i have heard of fulltime photographers who carry something like a 400/2.8 and run to catch a closeup... only to hear the thud of the entire lens AND camera kissing the ground because the monopod attachment was too weak for the load (minimum 7kg, not yet factoring "bouncing" during running...)

Thanks for that cervello. Yes, it was my mistake (must have confuse with other pics) as i double checked on the pic by PS and adjusting toner, etc.. to make it more clearer and he was carrying a 600 F4.

So tat time Williams Honda wat is the spec of the engine?

The engines for the Williams team were:

1987 Honda RA167E V6 1494cc

1988 Judd CV V8 3500cc

1989 Renault RS01 V10 3493cc

1990 Renault RS02 V10 3500cc

1991 Renault RS3/RS3B V10 3493cc

1992 Renault RS3C V10 3493cc

1993 Renault RS5 V10 3493cc

1994 Renault RS6/RS6B V10 3500cc

1995 Renault RS7/RS7B/RS7C V10 3000cc

1996 Renault RS8/RS8B V10 2998cc

1997 Renault RS9/RS9B V10 3000cc

Renault pulled out of supplying engines to F1 end of 1997. But the other teams could still buy Renault engines off the shelf for their use. Benetton's engine was called Playlife, Williams was Mecachrome, and BAR and Arrows was Supertec.

Renault only came back in 2006 to supply to Red Bull. That's why Red Bull's Ferrari engines were transferred to STR (Scuderia Toro Rosso). I called them Red Bull Team B :bsmilie:

1987 Honda RA167E V6 1494cc

 how much bhp does this engine have?

1989 already have V10 engine, wat took them so long before they decide to use a V10 configuartion engine for a road car, in BMW M5, Porsche Carrera GT & Lamborghini Gallardo? :bsmilie:

I might be wrong about the RA167E, but I believe the BHP was from 850-1100. I think we are looking at about 14000 RPM here..

From my understanding, the technology in F1 does take some time to be transferred to a commercial use. F1 cars are specially built to adopt this technology while regular commercial cars are not. So I guess it's more complicated than plugging a V10 engine onto a chassis and pray that it runs. Structural integrity is something they analyse too.

It's the same with the motorcycles too.

Moto GP is like F1, where the motorcycles are built individually and specially by the teams to race. Superbike Championship is one step lower and the regulations demand that a Superbike is a commercial off-the-road bike. No "specialised" racing modifications are allowed on a Superbike motorcycle.

I know the Moto Gp one, all the 1000cc bikes makes around 260bhp. Their top speed can be higher than an F1 car on the straight...

Do anyone know what engines are the Honda team using? It's clearly much noisier and louder than the rest. Is it from their VTEC technology? :bsmilie:

The Honda team is using the Honda R808E V8. Its a 2400cc, 19000rpm engine. I don't think its VTEC technology.

Hi All.

I promised in an earlier email that I will try to dig out some of my old stuff on F1. I took some time during the weekend to dig thru my dungeon, and found the stuff, long buried in a metal container. So I would like to share with the bros here.

I mentioned about getting interested in F1 when I was in primary. Through the period from the mid-80s to mid-90s, I also corresponded with F1 teams as a way of getting information and news. This was before the popularity of Internet hit our homes, and also the mass media in Singapore didn't publish news on F1.

Magazines like Autosport UK were also not available in Singapore, and the only channel that showed F1 races was RTM3, which was not a live broadcast.

3 of my favourite teams which I corresponded a lot with was McLaren, Team Lotus and Honda. In fact, I corresponded till Team Lotus closed down and left the F1 scene altogether (Not my fault hor!!)
Letters.jpg

During our correspondence, I received a lot of newletters, information sheets, press releases, sticker/labels, and my favourite, signed photographs of the team drivers. These items have become my treasure as they reflected a period of which, IMO, was the best period in F1's history.

The "white-faced" driver on the bottom row photo used to drive for McLaren and is a 2-time World Champion. Can you recognise him?

Hard to believe, but the sons of these 2 famous drivers are now driving in F1. Can you identify them?

Team Lotus went through a lot changes, and a new look team was launched in 1991

The last 2 drivers for Team Lotus was Johnny Herbert and Alex Zanardi. Unfortunately for Team Lotus, this year was the end for them due to financial problems.

McLaren of course had been having it good in F1 for a long time as their record shows. The McLaren-Honda era produced great results, and they had 2 of the greatest drivers driving for them.

My most prized F1 possessions. Between "The Professor" and Senna are a total of 7 World Championships.

So, there's my little treasure trove of F1 memorabilia. If any of you also have any, please take photos of them and share it with everybody.

Now, excuse me while I go dig out my F1 address book...;p

Satoru Nakajima & Nelson Piquet.

Fathers of Kazuki Nakajima (Williams) & Nelsinho Piquet (Renault).

Bro ClipperSG, that is a hell of a F1 treasure trove you have there! Well done.

I wish that I knew that one could correspond to F1 teams back then.

Wah bro, you also can recognise the famous faces har..those were classic times. :sweatsm:

When I was young, not only did I correspond with F1 teams, I also corresponded with a lot of military companies too. I was very heavily into plastic modelling, and being not exactly loaded with money to buy reference books, I would write to them for their brochures, posters, whatever they have.

I used all these as a reference to make more accurate models. I have also visited every Asian Aerospace since 1982 (first event) till now. I take photos of the aircraft as references for modelling.

I still have all these letters..they are kept together with the F1 ones. I should pull them out and take shots of them too!

With the Internet now, its much easier to obtain information..but I feel that nothing expresses sincerity like a hand-written letter. :D

ClipperSG, thanks for sharing your collection. Thats very impressive!

I think both of us around the same age group.

All the F1 engine uses variable valve timing technology... thru racing they applied to road car.

Ferrari 430 Scuderia is one of the most impressive bhp per litre non-turbocharged engine. 4300cc V8 variable valve timing 510bhp.
