I do not understand is those few dollars saved is so important? Buying from shops that sell many different items is quite dangerous. Those CF-SD cards could be fake. They maybe some cheapo card or lower end ones that are replaced with high speed stickers. There are so many post on these fake cards and you guys are so happy buying it.

I don't mean those shop are intentionally selling fakes but the dealer selling to them maybe getting fake cards without knowing it. The risk are there. I will never get from these shop, I do not want to see my pictures taken become currupt during an important shoots expecially during your holidays.

There is a sandisk shop at funan that sell only sandisk products and I think this shop should be quite safe. I normally get from IT/computer shows where the booth only sell one brand product such as sandisk booth. Their price will be slighly higher but I do not mind as I know that the chances of getting fakes are real small.

OMG thank god i saw this thread. i almost purchase from a guy in CS selling 2X the offered price in SLS. for kingston 8G

If getting Sandisk Extreme 3 or 4, must take note that they are the new type, the Extreme 3 should be new type speed upped to 2000x, reflected on the box. For Extreme 4, old type 40mb/s & new type 45mb/s, the box & the card design is different too. In SLS, only Alan Photo's Extreme 4 has the new type, the rest of the ppl all selling old type Extreme 4.

To see how fast your card can clear the buffer, try taking continous shutter in 'RAW+Jpeg'. Slower cards will hang the camera, in a sense becoz card cannot write fast enough, buffer is full, so you can't take anymore pics. Sandisk Extreme 4 or Lexar 300X, you won't experience that.

And also i think, not sure if it's a myth, the same type of card, but a bigger capacity, will be slow. The Transcend 133x 8gb is ok, 16gb seems slower & 32gb is as slow as a normal card, doing 6mb/s. The 133x 32gb, becoz of the huge capacity, it loss it speed. I feel Transcend cards are slower than the rated speed against the competition. I have a Transcend 300x 4gb card, slower than my other Sandisk Extreme 4 mk1 4gb.
actually whats critical is the camera "processor" speed which writes the data onto the card. A very very simple test is to open up the raw photos taken so far and scroll between them noting how fast the picture change from one to another. A fast processor means you wont experience any lag. For most cameras, actually 133x is more then enough as more then that simply means faster file transfer from card reader to the computer. As for buffer it depends what memory chip(s) is built into the camera to store the data. The faster the chips, the faster the processor can read/write the data on the card.

Sandisk Ultra II SDHC 4GD now SGD25 only at Copernicus Interactive (Sandisk authorised dealer), 3rd floor. Just bought one, and the 2GB and 8GB also good prices. Nearly bought at 4th floor shop at SGD39.90/- lucky I feel fishy about the price and took a walk around.

My personal preference is to buy from Memory World as they have often offered CSers a pretty good deal.

what the current best prices for kingston 266x, 133x.

And maybe kingston 4gig/8gig thumb drives too, if anyone knows. Need the information as im in thailand. Would like to compare. thanks

Was just quoted $125 for Transcend 266X 8gb CF card

Just bought a 8GB Extreme III CF at Sitex, $79.
4GB Extreme III SDHC at Sitex, $39.

These are their 2 star buys!

Also, 4GB Extreme IV CF, $78. Couldn't justify the big difference in price per GB for slight speed increase, so settled for Extreme III instead. :sweatsm:

just bought the 16GB extreme III at $149. :) was quoted $225 by Song Brothers for the same card!

Extreme IV in the right camera can be up to 50% faster than Extreme III for write times. Still, these cameras normally come with a generous buffer.

SITEX pricing wasn't great. I waltzed in to AP and got some memory at lower prices...
