105 days Europe Adventure

Oh my... i love how you compose your picture.
so skillful to pick the angles to snap and what to include in the frame.. i guess ill nv be able to do this.
very awesome ! bravo!

Thanks bro! I prefer to shoot most of the landscape shots especially portraits in 5:4 ratio.

The camera LCD screen is masked with tapes to 5:4 ration to allow me to compose the frame with 100% coverage. Viewfinder was only used for casual snapshots.
All the images that were composed with the 5:4 LCD screen are then mass cropped to reflect the actual image for my framing. I wouldn't call this PP since no other editing to color or sharpness were done and the cropping were not attempts to change or improve the original composition.

I will only do PP for commercial requirements but as of now, I still enjoy the process of shooting more than PPing.

Glad you enjoyed the series! :)
wow u mean.. for all these shots u posted.. u didnt PP to enhance the colors or sharpness?
very impressive ill say very smooth and sharp..great colors too.. i dont do PP for my photos too..that because im too lazy and i dontknow how. But i can nv shoot like you. simply too good ill say

Hihi
Is there any gd links to read and study on how to use the filters effectively and how to choose the filters ? now after seeing yr marvelous pics, I am tempted to buy filters to take landscapes for my 15-85mm lens .. =p

Hi droozy, sorry I don't have any good books or links to recommend as I self-taught by trial and error. Only through self-practice can you understand your own shooting style and make the filters work for you instead of changing your style to follow the 'instructions' from some expensive books or sites.

As for choosing the filters to buy, I did a search here and read up the advices given by the bros on filters and that is how I first tried out hitech, which unfortunately did not work out for me. Go venture into filter system, I'm sure you'll love it!

Fking awesome pics ~ gimme chills ~
Thanks for these pics

Thanks bro! Glad you like them, you can do it too with plenty of practice!

Yup, I do not PP the colors or sharpness. Only did noise reduction for the aurora images. I'm still not that good as you thought, you can even spot mistakes like slightly slanted horizon in some of the images if you look carefully. That's the downside of composing with lcd screen which lacked precise guides, wished I had a body with 100% viewfinder and multi-aspect ratio. I find using the level bubble is too slow & troublesome when the light waits for no one.

#43 Isle of Eigg, Inner Hebrides.

Faced with the amazing array of colors, it is easy to overlook the hazards of walking on these damp rocks and moist moss.
The danger of losing your footing (or the tripod's) on the slippery moss and falling over some sharp rocks is indeed very real and cannot be discounted.

Beachgrass rippled and danced to the tune of the howling winds. A 3km long stretch of beautiful white beach awaits beyond where we camped for the night.

you guys remind me of Bear Grylls "Man vs Wild" :bsmilie:

we are not so hardcore like them to go try technical climbs with ropes or put ourselves in precarious situations intentionally although we do find ourselves alone in no man's land most of the time. Truly a mind lifting experience to spend solitary time with nature without the disturbance of wide-spread tourism.

can't wait for your new update :)

simply amazing photos and without PP that is simply awesome. how did you get your cam to "stay alive" in those sub zero temp. i was in NY last year during winter and my cam just shuts down after a while.

#45 Jukkasjärvi, Lapland.
The world famous Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi is known as one of seven wonders of Sweden. It is built from scratch every winter with ice blocks that were extracted from the nearby lake Torneälven during the previous winter. Artists from all over the world will then be invited to design each of the 'ice room' like a work of art, some of which were simply amazing.

Cheapest ice room starts from ~$1000 onwards per night, not the cheapest option for budget travelers like us. Furthermore, rooms are only available for check-in after 6pm as they are open to day tours before that. Rooms are unlock-able with luggage room and toilet are a distance from them, which means you would have to freeze your butts off to answer the call of nature in the middle of the night.

An exceptional experience for an exceptional price.

Thanks bro, will try to update as frequent as possible. :)

Thanks cheeliang. my cam did KO a few times too during extreme sub zero temp, especially in Svalbard. Auto focus is usually the first to go, followed by lcd screen and uber slow response. warming them up in your jacket do resurrect it to some extend usually.

#47 Isle of Eigg, Inner Hebrides.

Laig Bay is a 1km walk through a muddy route from our cosy wooden cabin where we stayed for 3 days in Eigg. It is such a wonderful place for photography that one will always draw new inspirations there to make photos despite numerous visits. The endless opportunities made me wished I had more time spent on this lovely island.

Encore Lofoten: A day in Oslo.
Following a night train from Bodø after the ferry ride from Lofoten, we arrived in Oslo early morning on 17th May. This day, coincidentally, is also Norway's National Day. The whole city was transformed into a giant carnival where food stalls lined the streets, Norwegians dressed up in their traditional outfits, balloons and music filled the air. Karl Johans gate, the main pedestrian street in Oslo, was overwhelmed with celebratory mood.

Endless parade columns comprising from school children to old retires played music, sang, cheering and waving little Norwegian flags as they marched the street for hours. Not only Oslo is ranked the most expensive city to live in, I think it is also one of the happiest city in Europe. Ended the joyous day with a flight to Reykjavik, Iceland, to embark on a new adventure.

A rest day for my 450D, all snapshots taken with S95.
